QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?
As long as abortion still remains legal in North Carolina, there is not much the school district can do to prevent a student from getting an abortion. However, the school district should be sure the student's parents are notified and inform the student about all the resources that are available for them if they bring their baby to term.
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
The fight for unborn life is the most important human rights issue of our age.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Teachers should be required to instruct students on mandated curriculum even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Agree
Teachers, like any employee, don't have a right to their jobs. I am all for granting a religious accommodation if possible, and so long as it's not all the time. The real problem is that our school districts and state educational agencies are mandating curriculum that is unsound and unethical. I vow to change that in the New Hanover County school district.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
Truly free enterprise is essential to the American way of life. Unfortunately, what we have now is mostly crony capitalism, where the government helps to pick the winners and losers.
What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?
Ideally all education should be privately funded. However, the NC Constitution mandates that we provide children an education, and we are obliged to follow that mandate. However, we should get away from public funding of higher education and concentrate on making our children's education top-notch, and an education that will help them become critical thinkers and productive citizens.
EDUCATION
Abortion and gender transitioning providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.
Strongly Disagree
We should be providing other non-abortion options to pregnant students, and make sure their parents are notified. Gender transitioning of students (whether physical or not) is a form of child abuse that the school district should not be involved with in any form.
Consistent discipline creates a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.
Agree
I mostly agree, but I am opposed zero-tolerance policies that don't factor in the unique circumstances that have occurred. I also prefer in-school suspensions where kids can continue to learn, as opposed to out-of-school suspensions.
Do you believe print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review, including those without children enrolled in school?
Yes
Transparency is essential to a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.
Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.
Agree
I absolutely believe that students need to learn much more about America's founding documents, as they are the greatest in human history. Our country is made up of flawed human beings, and our history is full of examples where we departed from the great ideals of our founders. However, our history is also filled with great progress. Our students need to learn all of American history - the good the bad, and the ugly!
I support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Strongly Disagree
DEI programs needlessly divide people by lumping people into identity groups, who are viewed as the oppressed or the oppressors. Instead of making sure all individual students have equal opportunities, DEI programs are only concerned about group statistics. There is nothing wrong with diversity and inclusion, but those things will only spring naturally from a shared belief that we are all created in the image of God.
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Agree
Education is outside the constitutional authority of the federal government, and the US Dept of Education violates the 10th Amendment.
If a member of the public flags (challenges) a book as inappropriate and the school board disagrees, should the board impose a moratorium on when the book can be challenged again? If yes, for how long?
Yes, but the book can be challenged again during the next school year.
Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning
Language Arts, American History, Mathematics, Science, Civics, Art & Music, Physical Fitness, Foreign Language, Personal Finances, Sexuality (Basic Sex Ed), Vocational (Exposure to different career options, but not specialized tracks in this. Students need a well-rounded liberal arts education that will help them become critically thinking adults).
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child instead of the bureaucracy, through a program which allows parents the freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Strongly Agree
I strongly agree, but we would probably need to amend the NC Constitution.
Which should students have: equity of outcomes or equality of opportunities?
Equality of opportunities.
Which type of written parental consent should be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE)? (A) Opt-In. (B) Opt-Out. (C) None.
(B) Opt-Out. But detailed written notice needs to be sent to parents.
Who should make decisions about whether or not a book is appropriate for children? A) the elected school board members; B) an outsourced community committee
A) The elected school board members. If voters don't like the decisions the school board has made, then they can vote them out. By outsourcing the job, school board members can "wash their hands" from the poor decisions made.
2ND AMENDMENT
The right to bear arms is fundamental and must be protected.
Strongly Agree
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
In the event of a pandemic, school districts can mandate whatever health precautions they deem necessary (including masks and vaccines) to protect students and staff.
Strongly Disagree
Parents have the right to decide whether their children will wear a mask, and on which vaccines they want their children to have.

VALUES
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian who believes that all individual human beings are created in the image of God and are inherently equal. God has created us all with free will, and with inherent natural rights to live as we please, so long as we don't the rights of others to do the same. The job of our government and our school system is to secure those rights and teach our children to do the same once they become adults.
Children have a right to reach maturity without chemical or surgical castration, which would damage their healthy bodies through surgeries and may cause a life-long dependence on cross-sex hormones.
Strongly Agree
That's child abuse, regardless of the wishes of their parents.
If sexual education is taught in schools, what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?
Only in middle and high school settings, and the content should be basic and age appropriate.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman essential to the formation and sustaining of a civil and prosperous society.
Choose not to answer
Parents have the fundamental right to raise their child in accordance with their beliefs and values, including the right to make decisions about the child's education and healthcare.
Agree
I totally agree, so long as the rights of the child are not being violated through actual abuse.
Parents should have full and timely access to any and all records, including school and medical records, associated with their minor children.
Strongly Agree
Transparency is essential. Our school system is there to serve parents and their children, and not there to try and replace parents.
School children have the right to be protected from sexual grooming including drag shows and explicit materials with pictures of sex acts and graphic language.
Strongly Agree
Absolutely yes!
Should schools be giving instruction on how to engage in sexual acts, the pleasures of sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity or should they instead focus on educating students about the science of reproduction?
Our sex education programs should be basic and strictly limited to the science of reproduction.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
Only exception should be absentee ballots cast by voters who can attest that they will be out of the area on election day, such as active-duty military personnel or people on temporary work assignment far from home.
EQUALITY
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Agree
