QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I believe that we should strive to never abort a child. If the mother's life is endangered by a continued pregnancy every effort should be made to save *both* lives.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
I think that phrase is a bit misleading. Too many people take it to mean that there can be absolutely no connection between the government and any religion, where I adhere to the plain language of the First Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..." I read that as simply a prohibition of the establishment of an official national religion that the government would or could enforce the tenets of that religion.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
As attorney general I would not have a direct role in this, but I support health insurance companies being able to sell policies and provide coverage across state lines, and I recognize the difference between access to insurance versus access to healthcare.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
As attorney general I would only have direct oversight of the attorney general's office budget, but I pledge to be a good steward of tax dollars.
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
That is not for me, as an individual, to dictate. Immigrants should enter our country legally, and any immigration policy should consider the unemployment rate of US citizens and legal residents and the ability of our social service agencies to properly care for those already here before admitting additional people.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Strongly Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I can't think of any restrictions needed on the law-abiding. Guns are simply a tool sometimes used by people to do evil things, just like fists, knives, poison--the list could go on and on. I believe it is important to prosecute crime and hold people accountable regardless of the tool a person used while committing a crime.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Neutral
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
As attorney general it would not be my role to sponsor legislation. However, my priorities would be: 1) Equal protection under the law: The law-abiding are not second class citizens. 2) Public Safety 3) Government accountability
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
No. While there are undoubtedly isolated incidents of racism, I believe media-sensationalized events and very vocal activists make racism appear much worse than it actually is in our country.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I have been a licensed attorney for over a decade, and I have over 20 years of law enforcement experience. My law enforcement experience includes patrol-level policing, follow-up investigation, internal investigation, best practices research and policy creation, and supervision experience. An attorney general is often called "the top law enforcement officer in the state," and I have the experience to impartially enforce the laws of Washington State and lead the subordinate attorneys, investigators, and support staff of the attorney general's office.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
Regarding question #4, I believe the government should not be involved in marriage at all. Regarding question #17, ideally we would treat others and be treated as individuals, regardless of any particular traits or characteristics. I am concerned that a never ending expansion of characteristics that require special consideration only serves to further divide us and makes people less accountable for their conduct and their character.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Neutral
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian, beyond that my relationship with God is deeply personal to me. I do not force my views on others and recoil at other forcing theirs onto me.
