What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?
The Texas Constitution sets forth the requirement for a duty of the Legislature of the State to establish and make suitable provision for the support and maintenance of an efficient system of public free schools. Taypayer funded schools therefore must utilize funds efficiently, transparently and provide a good return to the tax paying public.

EDUCATION
What is the function of the local school board?
The local school board's function is to engage with the community and utilize that feedback to develop the culture and direction of the school district. It sets policy and direction in collaboration with the Administration for the Superintendent to ultimately execute.
Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?
It is typically a shared authority. School staff have the experience to evaluate curriculum, but the School Board has the ultimate authority to determine a curriculum’s fitness for instruction.
When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?
Parental and Community comments are an essential part of school board proceedings. It is an important opportunity for board members to hear firsthand their needs and concerns. Parent and Community comments should only be restricted in the rare circumstances of a physical threat or for unnecessary disruptions.

What does "equity in education" mean to you?
There has been a push in public schools for a one-size fits all mentality to close achievement gaps. Those attempts have been unsuccessful in the pursuit of equity for all. Public Schools can't allow the goal of equity to undermine the quality of education and cause them lose sight of the goal of preparing students for an increasingly competitive global workforce.
