QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
When the life of the mother or baby are in jeopardy as a result of a pregnancy, the family faces a difficult decision about how to prioritize the lives involved. It is possible there are times, though exceedingly rare, when abortion could save a life involved.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
Public entitlement programs take up an enormous amount of the budget. We should begin staged reductions in who qualifies for these programs, so people who currently have access to funding do not lose it, but we begin to trim down who is covered by these programs.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Strongly Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
The government should not impose a state sponsored religion but should protect the rights of the people to worship how they see fit.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
The people should retain the option to utilize private healthcare and insurance companies. The government should continue to provide an option for care for seniors and those in poverty. The government should pursue legislation that encourages transparency in costs associated with healthcare, a reduction in cottage industries surrounding healthcare and insurance, and a reduction in bureaucracy surrounding health insurance.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
People who wish to immigrate to the US should be able to do so after passing a background check and other requirements. There should be an overall limit to the number of people who immigrate to the US each year, but the per-country caps should be lifted, allowing countries with a high number of people wishing to immigrate to send more people, shortening wait times. People who wish to immigrate should benefit the US and should all go through the same process. However, there should still be some paths allowing for an alternate form of residency for refugees and those facing persecution in their home countries.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Disagree
Promotion of the LGBT agenda in public schools, including teaching of “sexual orientation” and “gender identity”, is completely inappropriate and should be opposed at the state and local level.
Strongly Agree
I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe the Bible speaks about God accurately, thoroughly, and timelessly. The Bible serves as the guide for life and tells us Jesus Christ is the only way to achieve right standing before God. God calls us to love him, love others, and serve the world. I seek him and try to be more like him over time, love and serve my family, work hard and ethically in business, and serve our community, state, country, and world to the best of my abilities.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
The founding fathers of our country fled various tyrannical settings and established a nation with checks and balances. While they believed, and I agree, that government is necessary, and in the case of foreign policy and the military, the government should be strong to preserve the lives and liberties of its people. However, power tends to corrupt, so power should be placed as close to the people as possible. The elected officials the people can most easily access and vote for/against should retain as many duties as possible. As higher levels of government assume more responsibilities and attempt to dictate more beliefs to the people, the more unwieldy our government becomes, more difficult to hold accountable, less transparent, and the quality of services the government attempts to provide becomes poorer.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
As a small business owner, husband, and father, and seventh-generation Texan, I know what our area needs to be successful. My prior experience with the legislative process means I will be able to make headway during my first Legislative Session. I have also spent years growing the Republican Party and bringing our conservative message to new Americans, which I will continue to do once elected.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
Every piece of legislation that will come to the committee and house floors will be unique and nuanced. While the above information is intended to be a guide and delineate my beliefs, it is impossible to comment on hypothetical legislation though I will always seek to answer constituent questions on why I voted how I did and to hear their concerns prior to a vote.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
The current restrictions in Texas are sufficient for public safety.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
Safer Communities A stronger economy Property Tax reform
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
While racism is abhorrent and should not be tolerated in any form, it does not pose a threat to domestic security. Any time a violent act occurs, it should be prosecuted appropriately. I will work hard to ensure our communities are safe and to lead by example to elevate positive and beneficial beliefs and people of all beliefs, ethnicities, and backgrounds.
