OTHER INFORMATION
Mark Curran is an attorney who served as Lake County Sheriff for 12 years and was formerly a state and federal prosecutor. He currently manages his own law firm. He was previously the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in 2020.
From His Campaign Website:
- "[Mark Curran is] a proven fighter for faith, family and freedom. He has seen the ravages of crime and injustice and has fought against corruption and never backs down... Mark has stood with courage and principle, over and over again. He won’t succumb to pressure and is owned by no person or party. He is guided by his faith and knows the pitfalls of unaccountable systems, unholy alliances and dirty politics... This is our chance to elect a justice who will judge with wisdom and principle, knowledge and understanding and his faithfulness to his oath will never be in doubt."
- "We know Mark Curran. He values, protects, fights for and is committed to: Life, Liberty, Leadership, and Law"
- His website identifies District 2 as being "the absolute battleground for the leanings and therefore rulings of the Court moving forward." He continues, "Do we want 'business as usual,' something worse, or do we want to renew and restore Illinois with a sense of hope and a brighter, less corrupt future? This is our chance to build on the defeat of Democrat Justice Kilbride and elect a fair, principled conservative, trusted and proven Republican: Mark Curran Jr. to the Illinois Supreme Court"
- He switched parties from Democrat to Republican in 2008 because he believed there was corruption in the party.
Info from Other Sources:
- iVoterGuide rated him as Conservative when he ran for the U.S. Senate in 2020
In an interview with For Such a Time as This, Curran said that Illinois Supreme Court Justices mattered because "What we believe to be constitutional historically, they are saying is not constitutional anymore, and for people of faith what's really concerning is that our protections-- our conscience protections-- our freedom of religion. It's not freedom of 'worship'-- they've tried to limit it. But it's freedom of religion, which doesn't mean 'Oh, they let me go to church on Sunday.' No, it's much more than that. For people of faith, we incorporate our faith into everything we do, and they don't recognize that. They say 'We don't care about you feel about transsexual or what have you. We're going to make you do a birthday cake for the transsexual and on and on...' And for people of faith it's oftentimes a conflict between 'Do I make a living, or do I promote what I believe to be intrinsically evil?'"
On why voters should give him their vote, he said, "They know that when Mark Curran says something it's not a politician talking to them. He doesn't dodge the questions... The voters want somebody who is electable, and they want somebody that they can have some semblance of where they stand. We've seen throughout history where we've put people on the U.S. Supreme Court, certainly, and the Republican presidents they have, and they've been horrible-- absolutely horrible-- and not constitutionalists at all. You look at Mark Curran, and you look at my record. You know, long history of defending traditional marriage. Long history of defending the unborn and life. Long history of defending the Second Amendment. Long history of speaking out in terms of liberty. And people can see that. This is not somebody that you're rolling the dice on. We know where this guy stands. Mark Curran is somebody who brings a natural law worldview to the bench and to every job he's ever had, and there's not gonna be a roll of the dice. We know what Mark Curran is gonna do."
On the potential concern of not having been a judge before, Curran said that it was not a requirement for the office, there have been great U.S. and Illinois Supreme Court justices who have not been judges previously, and the likely Democrat candidate has not been a judge before either. He said that the job of a lower court judge does not prepare one for the issues they will face as a Supreme Court justice.
Mark Curran is rated as Not Recommended by the Illinois State Bar Association.
Three-Headed Eagle Alliance and We the People of McHenry County IL Supreme Court Debate:
Curran said that the Declaration of Independence outlines natural law principles, and that the country is falling apart because people no longer understand natural law. He explained that without natural law principles, the unborn, religious freedom, and conscience protections would all be under attack (27:55)
He said the Illinois Supreme Court was wrong to deny cert in cases contesting the 2020 election because the election might have been stolen. He said that there was wrongdoing, and there were major questions as to what happened. As a result, Curran said that the Court should have heard that constitutional question (33:40)
On whether it was troubling that Dr. Anthony Fauci said that the principle that a federal judge could overrule an medical expert was disturbing, Curran said, "So, there's two prongs to social justice that I absolutely believe in: subsidiarity and solidarity. Subsidiarity is the concept that decisions should be made at the lowest level humanly possible. And the Reserve Clause to the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution clearly states that those powers not expressly stated in the Constitution are reserved to the states. And the reason why we care about that is because, y'know, maybe we want to live in those states that are free like Florida and Alabama and Georgia and what have you, and we don't want to live in those states that resemble totalitarian regimes in communist nations like Illinois. So with Fauci, I would go on forever. Needless to say, Dr. Fauci went to Regis High School and Jesuits all the way through, needless to say he doesn't believe in God. He's a humanist, and essentially his worldview is such that everything can be known through science. Wrong! And so because he's 80 years old and he's spent all this time in this field, he thinks that he is so much smarter than the rest of us and he refuses to allow for the fact that we want freedom..." (38:50)
Curran emphasized that he was a proven conservative and not a "roll of the dice." He explained that many Illinois and U.S. Supreme Court justices were thought to believe one thing, yet ultimately ruled contrary to that once they were placed on the court. "Gorsuch voted in favor of the trans law, and he was 'Originalist,' but--ok-- what the heck does that mean anyways?" (44:00)
