QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I agree with the California Pro-Life Council position that termination should only be permitted in cases where the mother's life is at risk.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?
To paraphrase President Ronald Reagan - 'let American families keep their hard-earned dollars. They will do a better job investing than the government bureaucrats will."
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
We need a representative with a track record of effectively fighting the big spenders. I received A ratings from the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association because I did just that. With a $4 trillion budget, there is plenty of room to cut. The Heritage Foundation's "Blueprint for Balance" is a useful tool for examining all of the opportunities to reduce spending in many areas including Health and Human Services, Financial Services and General Government, the Legislative Branch, and others.
Under what circumstances should taxpayers help pay off existing student loans?
Simply "cancelling" the debt is NOT something I'd support. This is unfair to previous students who worked to pay off their debt and it is unfair to lenders and taxpayers.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
The phrase "separation of church and state," which does not appear in the Constitution, was intended to protect churches from the government, not the other way around. One of the bedrock principles of America is religious freedom. Churches and people of faith should be able to exercise their faith freely. And leaders who choose to speak up for people of faith and base their votes on Biblical and faith-based principles should be able to do so openly without government interference.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
I support the elimination of private healthcare insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
I opposed the Affordable Care Act when it passed Congress in 2010, and the recent Republican Study Committee health care plan presents several elements of a plan that could move us in the right direction.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?
I support the tough stance our President has taken with countries that fund terrorism, such as Iran, as well as his successful efforts to push back and defeat ISIS.
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Agree
Employers should be required to use E-verify to confirm the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
A strong country has strong borders, pure and simple. We should build the wall. No one needs to tell us in Southern California about whether border security works. Those who want to go through the legal immigration process in order to start a new life for themselves and their families and contribute to our society deserve a system that works efficiently. I strongly support the President’s efforts to secure our border and to eliminate illegal immigration. As a State Legislator, I have consistently opposed the extension of state benefits and services to illegal immigrants, and have been an outspoken opponent of so called “Sanctuary” Laws at the State and Local level.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins and was raised from the dead so that I, and all believers, could be reconciled to God. As a public official I am entrusted with a responsibility to lead and work in a way that reflects the renewing and life-affirming love of God, and to uphold the values that are the cornerstone of our country: faith, family, and freedom. That's what I have tried to do for my entire career
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
Many trusted conservative and faith based organizations have given me top ratings for my solid conservative voting record which is summarized here: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5dacc87c803b170357e35ae0/t/5db3211496e65751abd5fc35/1572020536410/TRUSTED+CONSERVATIVE+VOTING+RECORD+
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
As the only leading Republican who lives in the district, I am the candidate who is best positioned to represent our shared values of faith, family, and freedom in Congress.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Strongly Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
My legislative track record demonstrates my strong defense of our Second Amendment right, as does my role as a founding Board Member of the San Diego County Gun Owners. I've voted to fund efforts designed to ensure that those who can't legally have them don't.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
I support BDS (boycott, divestment, and sanction) against Israel if they refuse to allow the creation of a Palestinian state.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Strongly Disagree
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
Generally speaking, my focus will be protecting innocent life, defending our constitutionally guaranteed liberties, and strengthening our borders.
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism tears at our social fabric. I intend to be part of the solution whether I'm in Congress or not. It is incumbent on all of us to work in our communities to eradicate racism, and ensure a fair and just society for all Americans.
