QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Imminent and medically certain death of the mother, but only if the mother makes the unequivocal affirmative decision and has had the opportunity to consult with counsel consistent with her faith.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?
There must be legal requirements to making access to Social Security funds by Congress much more difficult. I would propose legislation requiring 3/4 vote by Congress to allow for any "loan" from the Social Security fund as well as a legislative line-item indicating the fund from which the loan will be repaid. Repayment would be required within 1 year and automatically remitted from the receiving account. Further, Social Security benefits would be restricted legal citizens only, so that only those who have been contributing will be receiving Social Security. I also believe that moving forward, citizens should have the option to contribute to Social Security or invest privately.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
I would greatly reduce funding to to foreign countries, businesses, entities, to not more than .5% of the National Budget. No foreign aid to any country exhibiting any hostility toward the U.S. and No foreign aid at all if there is a shortfall in Social Security. Federal subsidies only for businesses defined as "small businesses." Federal agencies that duplicate existing state agencies will be eliminated in support of the 10th Amendment.
Under what circumstances should taxpayers help pay off existing student loans?
Disability due to service in the military, law enforcement, fire department, and other first responders. Otherwise, I believe that assistance in tuition should come from public/private institutions, businesses, faith-based organizations.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
That Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. That in no way infers, implies, requires, or permits Congress to enact laws restricting when, where, or how a citizen's religion is practiced but for well established time/place/manner restrictions that are the least restrictive means necessary. The current interpretation is completely backward from that established by our Founding Fathers in the Constitution.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Disagree
I support the elimination of private healthcare insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
What Americans NEED is: 1. Personal, "portable" health insurance (job to job, in & out of labor market). 2. Around the clock communication (phone, email, skype, facetime, etc). 3. Telemedicine, avoiding traffic, long waits, unnecessary ER visits, etc.. 4. Centers that specialize in chronic health conditions (including pre-existing) and actively compete for patients. 5. Accounts owned and controlled by patients who are willing to manage their own care (including chronic and routine surgery).
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?
Acknowledge that the goal of Islam as interpreted by radical Islamist terrorists is the conquering, subjugation, conversion, elimination of all of those who do not believe or follow Islam. We cannot continue to promote the lie that it is a "religion of peace." Shariah law is key to those followers of radical Islam, therefore, a Federal Statute expressly forbidding the formal or informal establishment of Shariah courts, tribunals, or anything similar. Islamic "morality patrols" must also be illegal, as they act as roving Shariah courts. While the 1st Amendment protects most forms of speech, there are proper time/place/manner restrictions. Those should be applied to the exceptionally dangerous speech that virtually always accompanies radical Islam. Although Islam is not restricted to Middle-Eastern, African, descendants, immigrants from those countries with majority Islamic populations must require a much more in-depth and rigorous vetting prior to U.S. entry.
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Agree
Employers should be required to use E-verify to confirm the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Immigration should only be allowed from those countries willing and able to provide vetting sufficient to ensure the safety of American citizens. It should also be based on merit and ability to contribute to the American economy. Much like Founding Father James Madison opined, immigrants should contribute to the wealth and strength of the community and not merely swell the numbers. Those admitted must show their ability and desire to assimilate prior to being granted citizenship. Numbers of immigrants shall be limited to ensure our economy and way of life can adequately accommodate our population, thus, chain migration shall not be allowed. American citizenship is a privilege, not a right, and the practice of "anchor babies" will be eliminated for the same reason. All claims seeking asylum must be made at a legal point of entry and must remain in a controlled living environment until the issue of amnesty is decided by proper legal authority.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe in the deity of Jesus Christ as the only begotten Son of God. I believe in His substitutionary death for all men, His resurrection, and His eventual return to judge the world. I believe all are born with a sinful nature and that the work of Christ’s atonement at the Cross was to redeem us from the power of sin. I believe that this salvation from sin is available to all who are willing to receive it through the prayer of salvation. I believe in the existence of the Holy Spirit as the third person of the Trinity (God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit.) I believe in the Holy Spirit’s interaction with man as a helper and comforter (John 14:16). I believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit as manifested by the fruit and the gifts of the Spirit. I believe in the scripture as the inspired Word of God and that it is the complete revelation of God’s will for mankind. My values come from the absolute authority of the scripture to govern the affairs of mankind
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
Feel free to visit my Facebook page where you can view stories I've posted and my views on various issues as I see them and that I believe relate to Texas Congressional District 35, Texas, and the United States. https://www.facebook.com/nick.moutos.186 You can also visit my campaign website at www.nickmoutosforcongress.com I have addressed several issues and what my beliefs are on those issues and will be adding to them as the election season permits.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I believe our Republic is facing a critical election in 2020 that could very well determine whether America remains a Republic based on the traditional values of our Christian founders and a capitalist economy or we become a secular socialist nation. I believe in traditional values and I support them. They are what keep families, communities, cities, our state, and our nation together. Those values are where we derive our work ethic and the genuine concern for others within our communities. The government cannot solve the ills of a nation, but a people with guiding values, principles, and morals can succeed and has succeeded in America since it was founded. WE THE PEOPLE must take back our nation. It is time to retire the career politicians, I will be a Servant Leader, not a "politician."
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Strongly Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
The following shall not buy, own, possess, or have access to firearms: A) Persons convicted of or on probation/parole for any violent crimes, misdemeanor or felony; B) Persons convicted of or on probation/parole for any felony; C) Any person who is the subject of a protective order; D) Any non-citizen E) Any person under the age of 18 *I would repeal the 1934 National Firearms Act and the 2nd Amendment would apply without need for licence or registration.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
I support BDS (boycott, divestment, and sanction) against Israel if they refuse to allow the creation of a Palestinian state.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Disagree
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1. Comprehensive Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking Legislation 2. Border Security and Comprehensive Immigration Reform 3. Healthcare Reform to include specific provisions regarding Veteran's Healthcare
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism currently exists more as a tool used by career politicians and elitists to divide the population than it does as an organic issue unto itself. I do not believe it is getting better and not worse, and that it is nowhere near a level that would threaten domestic security.
