OTHER INFORMATION
QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Every child has a constitutional and moral right to life. Abortion deprives a child of their rights and should not be permissible for any reason. This obviously does not extend to unintentional loss of a child when providing medical treatment with both the mother and unborn child in mind.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
Ohio's state budget is required to be balanced when passed, however, bonds and loans should not be used to give an illusion of a balanced budget. The first and best place to look for cuts is always in the apparatus itself.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Strongly Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
It is not the business of the State to regulate or dictate spiritual matters, nor the Church to seek to govern. Our Founder’s sought both to avoid a state religion and to protect religion from the state. It was clearly not their intent to create a state that abhorred religion, as proven by them creating the First Amendment protecting religious belief and following its passage by declaring a National Day of *Prayer* and Thanksgiving. They sought to avoid coercion, or purity tests, not to purge all signs and references to our Creator from the government and country they sought His blessing for.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
Encourage free market competition in the healthcare industry, decrease bureaucratic involvement by reducing excessive mandates and regulations, and encourage charitable and philanthropic efforts.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
We should welcome those seeking to build a better and freer life but only those who respect our rules and process and seek to enter legally. Our rules and process must leave room for compassion, but must also seek not to place an undue burden on our current citizens either. While immigration reform is certainly needed, and there seems an overwhelming consensus that is the case, ensuring our border is secure and that those immigrating here are doing so legally should be our top priority.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
As a conservative Christian, saved from my sins by the grace of God through Christ Jesus, I believe that the Bible is the righteous guide for my life and decision making processes. This leads me to value life, marriage, family, work ethic, honesty and liberty, while recognizing that there are personal and governmental responsibilities in a self-governing society.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
As a State Board of Education member I have consistently voted to support parental rights, family-values, and local control. Prior to my elected service, I volunteered for two years with the Ohio Healthcare Freedom Constitutional Amendment which passed with a 2-1 majority in 2011. Throughout my adult life I have also promoted voter education, personal responsibility and non-governmental outreach to those in need.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
As a Christian small business owner, farmer, and elected member of the State Board of Education for eight years, I believe that I can represent the diverse needs of my constituency, ensuring that their voices are heard and our shared values are represented.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No, I have not.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I have been honored to serve for eight years as the first homeschool graduate in the nation elected to a State Board of Education. I've learned to make principled decisions during times of intense pressure, to communicate better with colleagues and constituents, and to promote a responsible government that serves us rather than the other way around. I believe that transparency and communication are critically important and I welcome further questions via email or phone.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
In my opinion, further restrictions on gun ownership would not help protect public safety, and quite probably do the exact opposite. If attacked, I cannot rely on law enforcement arriving instantly to help me, which is why I have a concealed carry permit.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Neutral
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Strongly Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1. Education 2. Religious Liberty 3. Deregulation/Government Transparency
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
It can be, as the KKK and other organizations have shown over our history. We should be careful to focus on actual crimes of violence or discrimination, however, our first amendment exists to protect unpopular and even repugnant views. Where such views lead to crimes, or to criminal conspiracy or terrorism, they should be treated as that.
