QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Treating an ectopic tubal pregnancy is not considered by many as abortion since this condition is not survivable by the infant. However, circumstances such as this, where the mother's life is in jeopardy and both cannot be saved, would be my only exception.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Strongly Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
While many credit Thomas Jefferson with this great phrase, he actually borrowed it from pastor and politician, Roger Williams. Jefferson incorporated this phrase in a letter to the Danbury Baptist Association just prior to attending church in the Capitol Building. Separation of church and state does not mean alienation of the church from the state. It means that each has a distinct role. Churches cannot legislate and states do not regulate doctrine. However, churches may influence legislators or states may and should acknowledge God as is done in our founding documents and many state constitutions. One must observe that the words "church" and "God," though related are no more synonymous than "God" and "state." He is the Author of each. God ordained the church to administrate worship and doctrine. God ordained the state to administrate civil affairs. There is a synergy when each performs its designated task but trouble when they stray and deviate for their assigned roles.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
As long as uninvested third parties control both the cost and the quality we can always expect less. The solution is to put the consumer in control of both. Incentivizing Health Savings Accounts and demanding transparency in healthcare costs would give greater control to consumers in managing both the cost and quality of their healthcare. Greater competition between private insurers would have a positive impact on both cost and quality of healthcare coverage. Unfortunately, competition has been hampered by the inability to compete across state lines. Eliminating this barrier would be a great first step.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
The government does not have an income problem. It has a spending problem. Often these spending indiscretions are buried deep and are difficult to discover. My experience in pastoring a church with a limited budget has taught me to be frugal with our resources. When resources are limited, innovative people will find a way. State personnel should be tasked and rewarded for improved and innovative fiscal efficiency.
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Immigration should be safe, legal and informed. Illegal immigration tends to be none of the above. Every sovereign nation has the right to decide who is welcome and who is not. Nearly every nation exercises this right but only America is criticized for it. People from every region of the globe ought to be welcomed. Yet, discretion ought to be exercised for purposes of security and safety. Vetting individuals from war-torn, terrorist laden regions should be a priority. While immigrants add to our culture by bringing portions of their culture and heritage with them, they should also understand that America has its own rich heritage and culture to be loved, cherished and respected. Ultimately, every American, immigrant or natural born, should seek to give more than they take from this great nation. As President Kennedy said, "Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country."
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Strongly Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I resist additional infringements on the Second Amendment. Enforce the laws already on the books. Obviously, felons and individuals with a history of abuse, addiction, violence and/or mental instability may forfeit their rights to possess a firearm. Legislation known as "Fix NICS" would increase interdepartmental data sharing and improve the ability to enforce existing law. I support increasing the age at which juvenile records are expunged from 23 to 28 as currently proposed in the Ohio House
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Strongly Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1. Religious Liberty 2. Pro-life 3. Economic Stability and Advancement
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism seems to be less of a threat to domestic security than it once was. Bigotry has by no means been eliminated. However, my children seem to be less aware of it than I was and I saw it less than my parents and certainly, my grandparents did. The hyperactive media often exploits racism when it is discovered and we are by no means free of it. Desperate politicians will occasionally stoke the flames of racism for political purposes. However, each succeeding generation seems to be more intuitively aware of Dr. Martin Luther King's assertion that we ought to judge an individual by the content of his character rather than the color of his skin. As long as there are people, there will be problems. However, I see this situation improving rather than regressing. Our church hosts an annual Forum on Race and Culture to engage community dialogue on this topic.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
Pastoring opens up a window into the lives of average, ordinary, everyday citizens. I have served as both a law-enforcement and a hospice chaplain which takes those experiences even deeper. I hear first hand about the issues that people face on a daily basis. I have learned to care about people as individuals long before I could count on their votes. When I step onto the floor in the General Assembly to cast my votes, I will have their faces in mind. I will remember their struggles, their hopes and their dreams. My position on the Republican State Central Committee and serving as a faith advisor on various campaigns has allowed me the opportunity to gain political experience necessary to build relationships and advance a conservative agenda.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
My life has been dedicated to serving others. I have taken on difficult tasks and challenging opportunities. I have always put others first. When I am sworn in to represent Ohio's 88th house district, I will be the same person that I have always been. I will be committed and dedicated to the task at hand. I will work for the people that I represent. I will live by the common-sense, conservative principles that the people of the 88th distrct sent me to stand up for. Thank you for your confidence.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I received Jesus Christ as my Saviour at the age of twelve, recognizing that I was a sinner in need of a Savior. Jesus, the sinless Son of God, shed His blood on Calvary to pay for the sins of the world. Three days later, He miraculously rose from the dead proclaim victory over sin, death, hell and the grave. The Scriptures teach us the "whoseover shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." I believe the Bible to be the inspired, infallible Word of God. My values are consistent, complete and conservative. They align with the Scriptures but are also accessible to those who may not share my faith. For instance, one does not have to be a believer to be pro-life, however, this conservative value is consistent with the Christian faith. The same holds true with marriage and human sexuality.
