QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Never
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?
The federal government has promised us benefits that it cannot fulfill long term. They have given us a false sense of security and they will blame others when it fails. Politicians will tell you what you want to hear and not the truth. If any citizen offered a program like this to the public, they would be thrown in jail for a Ponzi scheme. As citizens, we have to learn we can never trust our government to be there when we need them. Those who paid in should have the promise fulfilled or their money returned to them. That was your money that they took from you against your will. The bigger issue is Social Security is a socialist program and socialist programs never work long term. The federal government is paying dollars with dimes and it will eventually go bankrupt.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
Almost all of it. Nothing is off the table. As a Jeffersonian that believes in a limited federal republican government, about 90% of the current government is not authorized by the Constitution and needs to be eliminated. That would reduce a large portion of our spending problem.
Under what circumstances should taxpayers help pay off existing student loans?
They shouldn't. Debt is the responsibility of the individual that chose to have the debt. No person can be morally forced against their will to pay for someone else's bad choices.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
It means the federal government does not have the right to force a national religion on the people.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
I support the elimination of private healthcare insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
I believe in the free market. I believe that if you get the government out of our healthcare, we will be in a better position to afford the care we need.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Agree
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?
I think the bigger problem is government intervention in other country's affairs. We have been trying to regulate their countries for almost 100 years and it has backfired on us. It is wrong to force our ways on to others. Every time we force our ideology onto another group of people, we receive blowback from those people. The way I try to explain it is to imagine Iraq (or any other country) invaded our country and tried to control our government and our people under their way of life by force. We would fight back against that. Every time they killed one of our family members, we would get angrier and grow in size and force. We would hate their country and we would want to retaliate for what they have done to us. We are not suppose to be the world police. There is a proper role for us to play in world affairs, but what we are doing is not working. Empires have fallen doing the exact same thing our country is doing now. We have stretched our forces, money, and other resources too thin.
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Agree
Employers should be required to use E-verify to confirm the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States.
No Answer
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Only those who are willing to follow the law.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian who still has a lot to learn. I believe in strong family relationships, good financial management, and treating all people with the respect they deserve. I am an imperfect person who wants to become the best version of me that I can be. I believe our creator has blessed us with all the resources we could ever need and we have to learn to recognize, use, and appreciate those blessings. I believe every experience is a teachable moment and that we should never stop learning.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
I would look at my Facebook page Wesley Virdell for Congress - District 11 and it will be clear about my beliefs on the proper role of government and personal values.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I am married to my wonderful wife of 17 years and we have three boys. I believe in the value of homeschooling, individualism, and self-governance. I am the liberty based candidate that wants to get the government out of our lives. I believe in a limited federal republican government and unfortunately we have a nationalist government that violates the constitution and infringes on a state's right to govern itself. Every election I think this will be the one that people wake up and vote for less government and every election people keep voting for candidates that do not understand the concept of a limited government. I hope to be the difference this election.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
None. The 2nd Amendment is a restriction on the federal government and not a restriction on me. Those who have the guns control those who do not.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
I support BDS (boycott, divestment, and sanction) against Israel if they refuse to allow the creation of a Palestinian state.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
No Answer
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
Term Limits Annual Balanced Budget Single Subject Only Bills (Omnibus bills are terrible and should not be allowed.)
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
I think the racism problem we currently have is perpetuated by the liberals who want to classify everyone by skin color, religion, gender, or some other aspect. Liberals who want to destroy our Republic are the threat to our domestic security.
