OTHER INFORMATION

QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Strongly Agree

I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.

Strongly Agree

If the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, North Carolina should repeal its law allowing abortion up to 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Strongly Agree

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

If the life of the mother was in clear jeopardy.

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Strongly Disagree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Strongly Agree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.

Yes

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

To me it means that the state may not interfere with the free exercise of religion and that the state has no place in the affairs of those who wish to practice their religious beliefs in a peaceful manner and that follow the laws that every citizen must follow.

HEALTHCARE

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.

Strongly Disagree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

I would lower barriers to affordable health care by getting rid of regulations where medical service providers are not allowed to compete for service. I would also encourage more telehealth options where providers can see patients and not have to physically visit a provider for many medical visits. An example is my bill, House Bill 721 Increase Access to Telehealth Services. Also opening up markets to health care coverage like in House Bill 464, the Small Business Health Care Act that would allow independent contractors and small business to form association plans.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Strongly Agree

IMMIGRATION

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Strongly Agree

State, sheriff and local law enforcement agencies should be required to participate in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) 287(g) Program to enhance the safety and security of their communities to identify and detain aliens.

Strongly Agree

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

I believe anyone, as long as they are not criminal and agree to follow the laws of the United States should have the opportunity to become citizens of the United States. With that opportunity, the person must follow our legal process to citizenship and not enter our sovereign country illegally. I toured the Texas border last year with Texas and Federal border officials. I have seen first hand and spoken with people who have entered our country both legally and illegally. I do not fault anyone wanting to become a citizen of this great country, I just ask that they do so in the legal manner.

EDUCATION

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Strongly Disagree

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

Parents should have the right to know what schools are teaching their children about sex and LGBT issues and should have the right to opt their children out of any instruction to which they object.

Strongly Agree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a devoted Christian and evangelical. I was raised in the small Episcopal church that my great-great grandfather built. Sadly, while our little church where I am still a member is still mostly family and very conservative, the Episcopal Church as a whole has become extremely liberal and I believe lost it's way. I would describe myself as an evangelical Christian influenced by the more conservative Southern Baptist Church, while having attended Southern Baptist, the Methodist and Episcopal churches.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

I believe my voting record demonstrates my strong conservative voting record. It can be accessed here: https://www.ncleg.gov/Members/Votes/H/632 I will add that I have led our state tax reform efforts while serving as the Senior Finance Chairman of the House of Representatives for four years, cutting taxes each year and making our state one of the most competitive in terms of economic growth and expansion. I would also point out that as the Senior Appropriations Chairman we have produced budgets that follow TABOR and I have fought to keep spending in check for our state. I have also been the national Chairman of the American Legislative Exchange Council in it's 45th year and have been a national leader and spokesperson for free enterprise and free markets in that role. Also, I most recently was asked by President of the Americans for Tax Reform to serve as our House Caucus Chairman and responsible for encouraging elected officials to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I have a degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and have been a small business owner for much of my professional life. I know what it means to sign the front and the back of a paycheck. I know the struggles that many hard working Americans face first hand and have lived through those with my wife and family. My work history has included having a my own lawn service company while in high school and in college. I worked night shift during summers while in college at the Timken Company operating a fork lift loading steel and calibrating tools. I started my own small tech business at 23 and have been involved with or partnered in several other tech businesses including the one I have now. I have worked as a dispatcher and then an operations manager for a family trucking company and have also worked several jobs in sales. My education and real life experiences qualify me to hold office.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I am humbled to have served the citizens of Lincoln County for the past 10 years and it is a pleasure to do so. Whether we agree or disagree on policy matters I ask that you pray for me and my family as we serve and that you do the same for all who seek public office. It is an incredibly responsibility and that is not lost on me. I humbly ask for your vote and your support.

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.

Strongly Disagree

2ND AMENDMENT

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

Yes

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I believe in the 2nd amendment and I do not believe in many restrictions for law abiding citizens to own and operate firearms. Convicted felons give up that right when they commit crimes against law abiding citizens in our society. Moreover, I believe every American's 2nd Amendment rights should be protected.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Strongly Disagree

The Electoral College should be abolished.

Strongly Disagree

In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?

Born Alive Constitutional Amendment Voter ID Small Business Tax Relief
