Only God is perfect. Men fall short and are imperfect (Romans 3; James 3:2). Men, generally, are imperfect in their execution of many things, including government. We all need checks and balances for the heart is deceitful. (Jeremiah 17:9)

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
For me, this is a calling, not a career choice. I gave my life to Christ in my 20s and everything I do is for His glory. The biggest influences in my life are undoubtedly my unshakeable faith in God, and my family. My wife of 20 years, Laurie, and I have a 14 year-old son, Luke. My faith is what drives me to serve others and helps keep me grounded and focused on what really matters. My wife is my best friend. She and I have been together since we were 17 and have grown up together. I couldn’t imagine life without her and wouldn’t be the man I am today without her guidance and loving support.

I appreciate this question and completely understand the concern. However, the Judicial Canons are clear that we should not answer such broad questions directly, despite the potential political cost. Canon 7(A)(11) states that a Judge or Judicial Candidate shall not “in connection with cases, controversies, or issues that are likely to come before the court, make pledges, promises, or commitments that are inconsistent with the impartial performance of the adjudicative duties of judicial office.”

There, I learned how to work cases under great attorneys defending major companies against lawsuits. It gave me a firm foundation in the principles of discovery, and, like every associate, I learned how to research, write and compress large amounts of information into a digestible format. I then decided to go into public service and become a prosecutor in Jefferson Parish. As a prosecutor, I prosecuted domestic violence offenders, murderers, child rapists, sex offenders, drug dealers, armed robbers and a multitude of other offenders, with almost 20 life sentences. As a general jurisdiction Judge, I preside over civil, domestic and criminal cases. I’ve also created and preside over a couple of Specialty Courts. I was also a volunteer, Allied Attorney with the Alliance Defense Fund, who studied and worked on several 1st Amendment issues.

I am running for the Supreme Court because I have a vision for the future of our courts. I am not just promising to be a great Judge, which is the primary role of a Supreme Court Justice. I am also promising to work every day to save taxpayer money and ensure there are fewer frustrated litigants, more former offenders contributing to the tax base and, most importantly, fewer victims. We must modernize our system of justice and begin providing smart, efficient justice to all parties by studying and investing in technologies that save people time and money, like e-signing, online calendaring, email/text reminders and videoconferencing. I have proven that this can be done in my Courtroom and I hope to push these innovations statewide from the Supreme Court. On the criminal side, we must continue to invest in specialty courts so that ex-offenders have a way to contribute to the society they harmed and ensure there are no further victims.
