QUESTIONNAIRE
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
The Ten Commandments should not be displayed in public school buildings or court houses.
Strongly Disagree
NATIONAL SECURITY
Islamic law (Sharia) should take precedence over national and state laws where there are Islamic majority communities in the U. S.
Strongly Disagree
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
The U.S. Constitution and my state constitution should be interpreted as living documents, rather than using a strict constructionist or originalist approach in judicial decisions.
Strongly Disagree
There are times when American judges should alter U.S. case law in order to comply with foreign case law.
Disagree
Which current U.S. Supreme Court justice best reflects your judicial philosophy?
Clarence Thomas because he is most like Justice Scalia, under whom I studied.
Which U.S. president serving after 1960 best reflects your political philosophy?
Ronald Reagan
What is the proper use of legislative history in interpreting statutory law?
It is a guide only. It should be considered only when a statute is unclear or ambiguous.
What specific text in the Declaration of Independence provides the critical basis for individual rights and the form of government guaranteed in the United States Constitution?
“That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed ....” Our founding fathers took great measures in an attempt to keep the federal government from becoming too powerful or oppressive. Having succeeded from an oppressive government, they recognized that individuals (and states) have rights and liberties which must not be infringed upon by the federal government.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
As a judge for 17 years, I deliberately do not publicly weigh in on economic and social issues.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I am the only candidate that checks every box — prosecutor, civil attorney, district judge and appeals court judge. I have a total of 17 years in the judiciary alone. The other 3 candidates together have 16. For the last 7 years, I've reviewed and corrected lower court errors (as Supreme Court Justice’s do). In the 10 years I served as a trial judge, I've handled divorces to complex class actions and traffic tickets to capital murder. The jury imposed the death penalty in one of the capital murder trials over which I presided. The U.S. Supreme Court reviewed that case with the scrutiny a case of that magnitude deserves. It denied writs. Irrespective of your opinion on the death penalty, it's clear those cases get more scrutiny than any other (as they should). I am the only candidate that has been battle-tested to this degree. I have the most experience, the most varied experience and more breath and depth of experience than any other candidate.
In what areas of law have you practiced?
All of them. I am the only candidate to have served as a prosecutor, civil attorney, district judge and appeals court judge.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
The candidates are limited to four Republican men. Each of us espouse the same beliefs. I, however, have lived it. I have been married for 26 years. We are raising seven daughters. Prior to entering the judiciary, I was a member of Louisiana Lawyers for Life. I am a member of the Federalist Society, which stands for the strict principals upon which our nation was founded. I am certified and maintain certification by the Louisiana Peace Officer Standards Training. I am the only candidate to have served a full term in ANY court. Moreover, I have served longer than all other candidates combined.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which permitted our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
George Washington's comment that “Religion and morality are the essential pillars of civil society” is still true today.
Strongly Agree
What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
Our founding fathers limited the government’s power to protect states and citizens against a federal government becoming too powerful.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a practicing, church-going Christian and believe strongly in the values of God, family, country and the rule of law.
In light of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Obergefell v. Hodges allowing members of the same sex to marry, which justice’s opinion in that case most closely approximates your understanding of marriage?
Scalia (dissenting)
