QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
Elective abortions are currently prohibited in Missouri as a result of HB 126, which was passed into law my first term in office. I voted in favor of that bill and would vote against efforts to weaken or repeal it.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Strongly Agree
In the extremely narrow circumstances that emergency abortions are currently allowed under Missouri law, I don't think chemical drugs would often be utilized. However insomuch as they are allowed to be used I would strongly support enforcing rigorous safety standards for them.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I voted for HB 2634 earlier this year, which prohibits state taxpayer dollars from going to Planned Parenthood.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Disagree
I do not support the legislation that I've seen proposed or enacted in other states, and am strongly against laws in Canada and other countries that effectively encourage people to end their lives for trivial reasons.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
All rights are property rights.
What is your position on the minimum wage?
Government should not make it illegal for people to voluntarily work for a wage they believe is fair. That's what the minimum wage does. I support the free market and would vote to abolish the minimum wage.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
No
Absolutely not. Taxpayer money should be invested based on relative risk / return and performance metrics, not based on political ideology.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
Virtually never. Unless there is an immediate and direct threat to life being imposed by a *particular* location, no private business, place of worship, or other private property should be shutdown by government. The forced closures that occurred during the pandemic were shameful and must never be allowed to happen again.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
None of those options accurately describes my views. I voted against expanding Medicaid, as the program is already bloated and inefficient. While I'd ideally like to see Missouri withdraw from the program and replace it with something run in-state, I recognize that is unlikely due to its scope. I'd settle for reforming it to eliminate waste without pulling the rug out from those who currently depend on it. Medicare is a Federal program, so there's not much I can do in that area.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Government should not require vaccinations in almost any case. Private employers should be legally permitted to set their own conditions for employment, however there should be strong disincentives for doing so (loss of government contracts, etc).
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Agree
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Indeed. Israel is a valuable ally in a volatile region. It is extremely important that we maintain this relationship, especially given the events of October 7th.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Agree
While I support securing the border physically, it is also important to make sure our immigration policies and procedures are improved, as no physical barrier is foolproof.
EDUCATION
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Strongly Agree
School choice is incredibly important. I voted in favor of the creation of Education Scholarship Accounts (ESAs) in Missouri, as well as their expansion statewide. I've also voted to permit open enrollment, where parents can choose to send their children to any public school of their choice, even outside of their home district.
VALUES
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
I voted in favor of SB 49, which prohibits gender reassignment surgery from being preformed on minors.
Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.
Agree
Parental rights are extremely important, and must be preserved.
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Strongly Disagree
Absolutely not.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Agree
Government should not be in the business of attempting to define marriage at all. It should stick to interpreting private contracts, and protect the rights of religious institutions to perform (or not perform) marriage ceremonies as they see fit. Additionally, no private individual or business should ever be required by law to provide services in furtherance of any marriage against their will.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
Asking someone to "briefly describe" their faith is like asking for a concise summary of world history... By their fruit you will recognize them.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
Requiring a photo ID is a basic measure to help provide election integrity. I voted in favor of requiring voter ID during my second year in office.
States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.
Strongly Disagree
Absolutely not. The Electoral College is extremely important and must be preserved.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism is a hateful ideology, however it is people's actions that can be dangerous, not their thoughts. Freedom of speech and expression must be protected, even when we strongly disagree with the views being presented. Treating abhorrent views themselves as threats to security nearly always results in government overreach and violations of individual rights.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Agree
I voted in favor of SB 39, which restricts boys from playing in girls sports. I would also support legislation to place similar restrictions on bathrooms and locker rooms in public schools.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.
A) and C). Environmental laws should generally be limited to restrictions on actions that cause direct harm to others (such as dumping chemicals in a river, for example). They should not be used to engineer a particular market outcome in regards to energy efficiency or other ideological goals.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Nuclear power solves many of our current problems related to electricity generation. Unfortunately expansion of nuclear power is extremely hampered by excessive Federal regulation.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No.
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
The purpose of government is to protect individual liberty.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
I have received a 95% lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union (ACU), the organization that runs CPAC.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Strongly Disagree
"Defunding the police" is dangerous and short-sighted.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I oppose all forms of gun control.
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
So should students attending public universities who hold concealed carry permits.
