What is the best way to bring down unemployment?
Unemployment in the State of Louisiana is multi-factorial. To solve this problem, we must first make our state more business friendly so that companies will come into the state and provide jobs. Without jobs, we cannot reduce unemployment. We must completely overhaul our taxing structure to make it fair and equitable for our citizens and businesses. Secondly, we must improve the education system. Without an educated and trained workforce, companies will not come to Louisiana. Third, we must lower our insurance rates for individuals and businesses. The cost of insurance is a major factor in attracting new business and keeping our existing businesses.

I believe the government's role is to facilitate a free market business climate and then get out of the way. The government's role is not to pick winners and losers and should not stifle free enterprise and the free markets with oppressing regulations.

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
Every person in the United States has access to healthcare. It is against the law for a hospital to refuse treatment to anyone based on their ability to pay. Furthermore, the current governor expanded Medicaid which brought in thousands of new people onto the Medicaid rolls. What I would like to see is measures taken at the federal level to allow health insurers to compete across state lines, increase the competition between insurers which would help to lower the cost of health insurance. The more we can reduce unemployment with good paying jobs with benefits, the more people will have access to employer provided health insurance.

I believe the Founding Fathers drew on their experience with the King of England and his quest for supreme power and control over his subjects when they drafted the constitution. They painstakingly devised a system of checks and balances to prevent any one person or branch of government to obtain too much power and control over the other branches of government and the citizens of the United States.

I was raised Catholic, went to Catholic elementary school, and Catholic high school. I am a practicing Catholic today. I believe in the Catholic teachings. I believe in Jesus Christ, the son of God, and that he was crucified and died for the forgiveness of our sins. As taught by Jesus, we should be forgiving, treat others as you want them to treat you, be compassionate, and to help those who are less fortunate.

I believe that the federal government is limited to the functions enumerated in Article I, Section 8. This would establish a limited federal government. Article X provides that all functions not expressly delegated by the Constitution to federal government is reserved to the states. I further believe that the closer the people are to the government, the better they are served. So I believe in more local government control. I am pro 2nd Amendment. I own firearms (including an AR-15) and am a concealed carry permit holder. I am against any law that would infringe on our right to keep and bear arms. I believe we must stop illegal immigration and building a wall seems like the best solution to this problem. I am in favor of legal immigration as my maternal great grandparents were legal immigrants from Sicily.

As a practicing physical therapist for 7 years, I was able to take care of patients and help to rehabilitate them after injuries or surgeries. From this experience, I learned the virtue of patience, persistence, and compassion. While a practicing insurance defense attorney for the past 25 years, I have been involved in the legislative process in the area of workers’ compensation working with LABI to draft legislation. I am keenly aware of how laws affect our everyday lives as citizens and business owners. This knowledge and experience will guide me as a legislator to evaluate each bill to make sure it accomplishes what it is intended to do and not create unintended consequences before I cast a vote in favor. Through my litigation experience, I have developed strong negotiation skills, persuasive arguments and the ability to work with the opposition to achieve a successful outcome for my clients.
