Our Founders knew that absolute power corrupts absolutely, so they created three co-equal branches of government to provide appropriate, necessary checks and balances for each other. They had also seen the negative effects of Church involvement in governmental matters in England, so they included the Establishment Clause to prevent the commingling of religion and government in America.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a follower of the teachings of Jesus, the Tao, Unitarian Universalism, and - to a lesser extent - Buddhism. I believe all religious beliefs, and the freedom to not practice a religion, should continue to be protected in the United States.

I am a fiscal conservative. I believe that government should not incur unreasonable debt, and should provide adequate quality of living for all citizens. As a small business & nonprofit consultant, I believe the government should provide reasonable support to small businesses & charitable organizations. I believe healthcare is a human right, per Article 25 of the United Nations' 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights. I support reproductive freedom, and access to comprehensive sex education for all people regardless of age. I support progressive taxation. I believe that the freedom to practice any religion, or no religion, should be protected.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I have worked in the small business sector and nonprofit sector my entire career. I am a business consultant, a prolific grant writer, and a respected advisor to numerous elected officials and businesspersons in my district. I have been trained as a servant-leader, and practice servant leadership principles in my own business. As a creative professional, I am uniquely qualified to work with diverse groups of people to find innovative solutions to difficult problems.

I am a passionate community servant, and have worked to improve my city and state for over 20 years. I have been a single parent, an adult college student, a mentor, a domestic violence survivor, a business owner, a nonprofit leader, and an outspoken advocate for governmental transparency & ethics reform. I will dedicate my work as State Senator to serving the people in District 37.
