OTHER INFORMATION

QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Agree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Agree

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

I am pro-life. I also believe in privacy and self-sovereignty. I am pro-life because there are two lives involved when an abortion is being considered, and I believe a fundamental role of government is to protect life whenever possible. In the cases where both lives are at risk - the health and safety of the mother, for example - I would consider allowing an abortion. I would also consider permitting abortion in cases of rape and incest. I also feel strongly that if we are going to mandate that someone give birth to a new life, we must be willing to provide support to that mother/child beyond just the birth.

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Disagree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Agree

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

I would look seriously at how to trim the bloated administrative state in Texas.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Disagree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Agree

I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.

Yes

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

I often say that government needs to stay in its lane. If we allow government institutions to start acting as the moral arbiter of our collective life together, we necessarily dilute the power, effectiveness, and all-important role that other institutions play - institutions like family, charity, and religion, which are all vital to a peaceful, prosperous society. I, personally, believe that we all have something we believe in, and that something will dictate how we live our lives. But for government to tell people how and what to believe...that is problematic and worrisome. Government should stay focused on what it is intended to do: provide services that individuals cannot (infrastructure, for example), create the regulatory framework necessary to keep us safe, and ensure law and order to keep us from descending into anarchy.

HEALTHCARE

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.

Disagree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

Regulation should aim at requiring transparency and accountability in the field. Competition is key, which means real competition (patient choice).

NATIONAL SECURITY

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Agree

IMMIGRATION

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

No Answer

State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.

Agree

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

The United States should continue to welcome with open arms law-abiding citizens willing to submit themselves to the process of legal immigration. We should also continue to welcome true refugees to our country as the safe haven that we are.

EDUCATION

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Neutral

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Agree

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Disagree

Promotion of the LGBT agenda in public schools, including teaching of “sexual orientation” and “gender identity”, is completely inappropriate and should be opposed at the state and local level.

Disagree

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a born-again, evangelical, Episcopalian. Sound like an oxymoron? Perhaps, but it's true. I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and I try hard to spend time in His Word, listening to His Spirit on a daily basis. Because He did, I respect every person's right to choose his or her own beliefs, and I believe strongly that Jesus Himself modeled the separation of church and state ("give to Caesar what is Caesar's..."). My faith informs my worldview, but I will not use it as a political weapon or a means to try to force others to believe or live the way I do.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Somewhat Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

Did not answer

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I have a degree in foreign service from Georgetown University, where I focused my studies on politics. I also have a Juris Doctorate from Baylor Law, and I practice before state agencies on a regular basis. I have served on over a dozen campaigns in various capacities, including Senator Cornyn's first campaign for Senate, which means that I understand process and have significant exposure to policy debates over the years. I worked on redistricting in Texas during the 2001 Session (the only candidate on either side of the aisle with real redistricting experience). I am a former small business owner and the daughter of two small business owners, which is why I'm committed to fighting for small business.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

My heart is to serve the public with honor and integrity. I do not have an agenda other than that: service. I hope to listen well, be thoughtful, and work with others to create practical solutions to the complex issues facing us today.

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.

Disagree

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.

No Answer

2ND AMENDMENT

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

No Answer

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Very few. It is tempting to blame guns for mass violence, but I honestly believe we need to turn our attention to the root causes of anxiety, isolation, and anger rampant in our society to address our very real mass violence problem in Texas.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Neutral

The Electoral College should be abolished.

Strongly Disagree

In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?

Property Tax Relief (obviously, the details need to be worked out). A Parental Rights Amendment to the Texas Constitution. Chapter 312 and 313 reauthorization along with clarification in the APA about the rights of ALJ's in contested case hearings. Leveling the playing field in government contracting, especially when it comes to road-building, and shortening the EIS time period to make sure traffic projects are completed in a timely manner.

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
