QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Disagree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Disagree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
When a woman, in consult with her medical care team, determine that this is best for that woman's health and well-being, within the bounds of the 1972 Roe v Wade ruling.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Agree
Congress should pass a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.
Strongly Disagree
Socialism provides a robust foundation for a stable economy.
Disagree
What is the best way to bring down unemployment?
Stop commodifying labor and pay workers for their productivity. This means higher wages at the low end of the pay scale, putting (earned) money in the hands of people who will spend it. If paid for their results, more workers will see the value in education and training. And hard work. This would cut profits, but make businesses more stable so they can hire more people. History demonstrates that this would create more jobs than giving billionaires a tax break.
What role should government play in boosting the economy?
1. A Keynsian economic policy that smooths the business cycle. 2. A robust but not onerous inheritance income tax that allows parents to give kids a hand up but doesn't put them at the top of the ladder unless they can leverage the investment. 3. Investment in future technology, especially renewable energy production. We have cell phones because of the 1960s US Space Program, and you're not a farmer if your land is on fire. 4. Decommodify labor and link productivity and wages through appropriate minimum wage laws. 5. A financial sector regulatory scheme that limits technology, housing, and stock market bubbles. 6. Robust antitrust laws, effectively enforced, especially in the technology and social media sectors.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or business owners because of their deeply held religious beliefs.
Strongly Agree
Governments should not penalize those who define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Strongly Disagree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Agree
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Agree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
Make government the universal insurer through a Medicare for All type system. This does not socialize the health care system. It socializes the health insurance system. I also socializes bad luck. Yes, some behaviors (e.g., smoking) make people sick. But everyone will require medical attention sooner or later, even those who lead the healthiest lives. When they do often depends more on simple fate than anything else. We can socialize the cost of this as well, by linking individual cost with ability to pay in some way and eliminating health care costs not directly associated with care (e.g., processing insurance payments and referrals). Rationing health care by ability to pay violates the moral values I learned in those red-letter Bible passages I read.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
I support sanctuary cities.
Agree
EDUCATION
Tuition-free public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Agree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which permitted our system of limited government.
Disagree
Any teaching to children on sex education in public schools must include all contraceptive methods, and should not show preference to abstinence.
Strongly Agree
People should be allowed to use public restrooms, showers, and changing rooms based on "gender identity."
Agree
Free speech is under attack on public university and college campuses.
Disagree
Parents should be the primary authority in decisions affecting their minor children.
Agree
What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
The Founders constructed the Constitution in a way that protected existing economic interests, including northern merchants and southern slave owners. This suggests a view of man's nature that included a drive to hoard resources and a willingness to subjugate others in the interest of doing so. It has not, so far, effectively thwarted those who would do either.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
A Baptist friend once gave me a Bible like the one he had. I read this and decided that living by the words printed in red - that is, what Jesus said - would be my best life.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I served 20 years in the Army as a combat soldier and leader.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
My military service informs my thinking. I learned that I could not be effective on the battlefield without physical and mental strength and stamina, so I know the importance of access to health care. I learned that I could not be effective on the battlefield without the proper training, so I know the importance of a good education. I learned that I could not be effective on the battlefield without my fellow soldiers, and that each brought important perspectives based on their background, so I know the importance of diversity. And I learned that I could not be effective on the battlefield unless I could train and trust every soldier to properly use and secure their weapons effectively, so I know the importance of regulating firearm ownership and use. I spent most of my youth defending the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic. I won't stand by and watch people rip it up and stomp on the shreds.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
Islamic law (Sharia) should take precedence over national and state laws where there are Islamic majority communities in the U. S.

I support the death penalty.
Strongly Disagree
