QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Abortion is healthcare; healthcare is a human right. There should be no restrictions; healthcare decisions are made for multiple reasons, are private, and made between patient, family, and medical provider. Restrictions and bans on abortion represent government overreach and violate the 1st Amendment right to the free exercise of religion.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Disagree

Abortions are a form of healthcare treatment. Planned Parenthood is a healthcare service provider, not just an abortion provider. The government should not be playing religious leader or medical doctor by subjectively choosing which healthcare providers get funding.

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Agree

The government should aid in improving quality of life; not making life completely easy and worry-free, but ensuring basic health and safety. When quality gives way to an insufferable existence or living with a terminal illness, I think the government can aid by allowing people the right to end their suffering on their terms.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Agree

It comes down to freedom of religion, accepting that people have other religions, and not pushing personal religions and morals on others. If anyone in a service industry cannot provide that service because of religious beliefs or difference of religions, then they should find another line of work. It would be very difficult shopping and doing business if we were made to find individuals and businesses who share our morals, religion, and religious beliefs.

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

The government should be able to close churches for the health and safety of congregants and the general community, such as during the Covid pandemic.

NATIONAL SECURITY

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

I don't know that it can ever be eradicated. At the very least, the U.S. should not support demagogic leaders. Additionally, we should ensure that our military are prepared and ready to defend against enemies on our land.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Agree

It comes down to basic human rights and acceptance of religious, political, and ideological differences. Leaders should not act out of hate or bigotry. Entire groups of people should not be lumped in with terrorist factions.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

B). The government should provide universal healthcare. Private healthcare insurance can remain an option, but in addition to universal healthcare; people should not be able to opt-out of the universal healthcare tax.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

The government should require childhood vaccinations, with opt-out for medical reasons, to protect the public from preventable and highly contagious diseases. Schools should follow government mandate. Employers should be given discretion.

ECONOMY

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

Zero tax on Social Security benefits, military retirement pay, and income less than 151% of the federal poverty level. Remove the cap on Social Security payroll tax. Increase the corporate tax rate. Zero tax on all grocery items. Tax should be paid on vehicles only once - when they are sold new, not every time a vehicle is resold. Zero personal property tax. Zero real estate tax on primary residences.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

I would have to determine this after I'm elected and can work on the budget.

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Agree

As well as for trade schools. Education builds a knowledgeable and skilled workforce that leads to innovation and creativity to build a strong economy and improve quality of life.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Disagree

Finish the wall and be done with it. Desperate people will find other entry points. We need to improve our immigration and work visa programs with funding and better policies.

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Anyone, for any reason, with in-depth vetting to prevent known or suspected criminals or terrorists from immigrating. Priority should be given to political and economic asylum seekers and labor workers in the farming, construction, and hospitality fields.

EDUCATION

I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.

Disagree

I believe in school choice, but not paid for in any part with public funds (tax dollars). We wouldn't necessarily need other than public schools if we just improved our education system. Pay teachers, staff, and employees a fair wage; provide students with free breakfast and lunch; provide all required supplies and materials. Include trades training and paid apprenticeship programs. Turn 11th & 12th grades into AP, dual-enrollment, college prep, and apprenticeship courses. Let teachers teach.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Agree

Law enforcement officers need to be able to do their job without worrying about whether they are going to get sued for unintentional actions. They should, however, be held accountable for intentional harmful acts that occur when they purposely overstep the bounds of their authority. Of course, departmental policies should be aboveboard and written consistent with civil rights.

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Disagree

Each should be sufficiently funded separately. Police departments, mental health departments, and community agencies can and should work together, but they have different missions and deserve their own, not shared, funding.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Ban manufacture, sale, trade, gifting of military-style assault weapons for civilians. Ban ghost guns. Background check for all public and private gun sales. Fund mental health agencies and professionals; conduct frequent checks to make sure that those who are not allowed to own guns under court or doctor orders do not have guns on their premises.

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.

Disagree

Would victims then be able to sue manufacturers and dealers of every item that can be used as a weapon? Hunting and carving knives? Fencing swords? Vehicles? Dinner forks? Hammers? That may sound silly, but if you wouldn't sue any of those dealers and manufacturers, why sue firearms dealers and manufacturers? A firearm is just another tool that can easily be misused.

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

To protect public health and safety, human rights, and the environment and natural resources, to oversee the building and maintenance of public infrastructure, and to ensure that we have a high-quality education system.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Moderate

Moderate may be closest. I don't label myself. Labels present preconceived ideas about what a person's ideology is. I believe in human rights, equality, and justice. I believe workers keep companies in business and should be paid a higher wage; CEOs should receive less pay and compensation, and pay more taxes. Repeal Citizens United and establish term limits for Congress and state legislatures. Stop price gouging and investor-owned housing. Government should operate on a balanced budget.

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

I can only suggest using whichever search engine you prefer and search my name.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No.

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

I'm a non-party (Independent) candidate. I've learned that political parties and their leaders put themselves and their personal agendas before the people. Some of them practice candidate suppression by withholding support or blocking the way. The people feel it; they are frustrated and fed up with government. My platform is to put people over party; to work on the solutions they want. Their priority is my priority: pocketbook issues. They want jobs and decent wages, access to affordable housing and healthcare, and lower cost of goods. They want protection from encroaching landfills and utility-scale solar facilities.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Neutral

Our system of government was established by religious and non-religious men. Religions offer teachings in morality, but one doesn't need religion to have morals. It does require morals to create and sustain a civil society, and that can be accomplished outside of religion. We have learned from history and are experiencing in the present the errors and ills that are committed in the name of religion by people who have set aside their morals.

I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.

Agree

Discrimination is an act against basic human rights and it is disheartening that those born with a biology different from what we have been taught is either strictly male or female are discriminated against. What is worse is that people of a different gender identity are experiencing violence against them. Everyone needs protection under the law; some need more protection.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Disagree

If it were God-ordained, we wouldn't have freedom of religion guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and no marriage would be conducted outside of church. Marriage is a basic human right and everyone is free to marry whomever they wish regardless of religion. No government has the authority to act as religious leader and selectively dictate who gets what freedom.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. My morals were set before I chose a religion. I believe in treating people with respect and dignity. I believe in letting people live their own lives as they see fit, without undue government interference. I believe in equal rights and justice for all.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Agree

A photo ID is not required of people who mail in their ballots. One is not required to register to vote, either. It's just an unnecessary step that leans toward voter suppression because those who don't have a driver's license or a student or employee ID may not be able to pay for a photo ID.

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

1) I would advocate for the removal from the Constitution of Virginia, Article II, Section I, paragraph 1, "No person who has been convicted of a felony shall be qualified to vote unless his civil rights have been restored by the Governor or other appropriate authority" and take the removal of voting rights out of sentencing. This act is left up to the subjective, arbitrary, and politically motivated decision of a sitting Governor and can mean a lifetime sentence in violation of the cruel and unusual punishment clause of the 8th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. 2) If not already mandated, I would push to mandate that all voting machines be optical readers so that there is a paper backup, that no machine shall have WiFi capability, and that no machine shall be connected to the Internet or to an intranet system. 3) I would advocate for legislation that sets deadline dates for mail-in registrations and ballots to allow more time to allow for normal and delayed postal handling and delivery time. 4) Make no-excuse mail-in ballots permanent and with no witness signature required. 5) Increase the number of members on Electoral Boards and on the Board of Elections.

EQUALITY

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Agree

Institutions have been created and run by imperfect human beings. Original institutional policies may have been outright racist or they may have been established due to unchecked biases. CRT is a valid study technique to uncover and rectify unequal and discriminatory policies. Why has our institution of education failed to teach about the contributions of immigrants and black Americans in building our country, and of the American Indian and Japanese contributions during WWII?

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Yes. The current U.S. President has encouraged people to openly exhibit their racism and bigotry and violently act out their hate against others. He is causing tempers to rise and violence to escalate. He has sent out military forces to confront peaceful protestors. Even peaceful protestors can become violent when assaulted. It is easy to understand how a domestic war can start and build with more and more people taking sides and joining the fray.

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Neutral

And the government is going to decide which race? Reparations should be considered for those who personally, or whose first or second generation ancestor, suffered loss of property and/or freedom. People of various races are currently being illegally held in detention centers. They deserve reparations regardless of immigration status.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

B). We have only one earth; if we destroy it to the point we can no longer live on it, there is nowhere else to go. It actually takes more people to fill inspection positions to make sure environmental laws and regulations are being followed. More people working means more taxes paid, more money spent in the economy, and less government safety net program money spent.

I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.

Disagree

I'm not a geologist or an expert in such matters, but removing substances from subterranean levels seems that it leaves voids that cause underground shifts that can cause earthquakes and sinkholes. We need to reduce the harms caused by climate change. Advances in science and technology will lead to better solar panels and enable current ones to be broken down into non-toxic materials. Oil and natural gas resources are limited. Like the earth, when they're gone, they're gone. We must be prepared.
