RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I have been one of the most vocal advocates for the unborn and elderly since being elected to public office. I was a co-author of the bill which led to the Supreme Court's overturning of Roe vs. Wade.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Strongly Agree
I do not support abortion of any kind, but in states where it remains legal, any drug or procedure should have rigorous oversite, along with continual study, monitoring, and regulation in efforts to at least protect the mother.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
I believe that to intentionally stop a beating heart and brain activity of an individual is nothing short of murder. Often arguments are made, and hypotheticals offered, about rape or incest being justifications. These justifications take one wrong and turns it into two. When do we punish the child for the crime of its parent?
Does the federal government have a role to play in limiting abortion, and if so what federal steps and/or federal legislation would you support?
To enforce the Hyde Amendment, and not allow any tax dollars to be used for abortion services both in the United States or around the world in the name of healthcare. Also, it is the Federal governments job to uphold state's rights and regulate interstate commerce, and should do so in the prohibition of, as well as protection from abortion, abortion trafficking and intentional importation of abortion procedures via mail and delivery services. I would also support a ban on the use of aborted fetal cells, organs, and body parts in the research and manufacturing of pharmaceuticals.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Only that the government should not be about the establishment of a state religion, or the favoring of one religion or denomination over the other. It should fight hard to always uphold the First Amendment, and protect every individual of faith in the exercise of their faith. One does not empty themself of their faith and moral compass just because they serve in government, nor should they ever have to.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
The First Amendment guarantees our right to the free exercise of our faith. Should an individual be forced against the tenants of their faith to participate in something they feel to be a sin and/or morally objectionable, their rights as a citizen have been violated. I was a co-author of the Religious Freedom from Persecution Bill that was ultimately upheld by the US Supreme Court, and protected Mississippian's rights to adhere to the tenants of their faith without fear of a weaponized govt.
NATIONAL SECURITY
With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.
C
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
We have become far too dependent on China.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Yes. Israel has been a major ally to the United States in a region of the world that remains predominately hostile.
What are the causes of decline in U.S. military recruitment and retention?
There are many issues. One has been the infusion of the Biden administration diversity, equity and inclusion agenda. Another was the forced Covid Vaccinations on service members. Many of our citizens and potential recruits now feel as if their lives are (would be) merely pawns to feed the military industrial complex and current globalist agendas. The current administration has also made identifying as a patriot akin to being a domestic terrorist, and its patriots who usually enlist.
HEALTHCARE
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Never, if it violates the conscience or faith of the individual. If we as society believe that a vaccine protects an individual from illness, then it should not matter if the individual decides whether they want it or not. It's their choice.
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
C
ECONOMY
What actions would you take that would allow Americans to retain more of their income and wealth?
Work to lower the income tax on working individuals and abolish the inheritance tax.
Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.
Strongly Agree
Student debt is taken on voluntarily by individuals. It should be their responsibility to repay. To make the American taxpayer now the loan guarantor, instead of the willing party that willingly took on the debt, is both an offense and assault on the resources of those who have worked hard to manage their own finances and pay off their debt without assistance of tax dollar.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
No
Absolutely not. The investing of public monies should have only one goal, and that is to achieve the highest and safest return possible for the taxpayers or retirees. ESG traditionally has much lower returns and is purely agenda driven.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
We spend hundreds of billions of dollars protecting other nation's borders and leave our own wide open. It's criminal. A nation is only as sovereign as its borders, and at the moment we don't have one.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
If we have a need for workers that can't be met by our own citizenry, we should give work visas to fill those needs (after extensive background checks and corporate sponsorships). If someone wants to move here and become a U.S. citizen, they should certainly have the right to do so if it's done legally and within the confines of our law. All efforts should be made to ensure that any immigrant who comes across our border poses no "bad actor" threat to our nation.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Agree
Taxpayers and parents should have the guaranteed parental right to educate their children in the manner of their choosing.
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Agree
Education was never a power granted the federal government in our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Education oversite should be the job of the state and local governments who know values of their people best. Currently the U.S. D.O.E. has become a propaganda machine and enforcement arm for progressive agendas to indoctrinate the hearts and souls of our children, by using federal tax dollars to threaten and coerce submission to those agendas.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Strongly Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
None, if you are a law abiding American citizen.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
The Supreme Court should be reformed to include more seats.
Strongly Disagree
Packing the court only seek to drive the agenda of whoever is in charge at the moment. We should leave it just the way it is.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Dependent on the specific issue, I regularly oscillate between very conservative and conservative. I have a proven track record in the Mississippi legislature, and currently have the highest lifetime conservative ranking of anyone serving in either the House or Senate.
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
To provide law and order, and ensure an environment where its citizens can find life, liberty, and the ability to pursue happiness. Protecting ones individual God given freedoms should be its sole directive.
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
VALUES
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Agree
Marriage, along with its origin, is based solely in religion and has historically meant for the legal union of a biological man and woman. Should the government had wished to get into the partnership business of two consenting individuals for the purpose of extending marriage like taxes, familial support, legal boundaries and ownership transfers, the agreement could have merely been defined as a civil union.
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
Absolutely! I have fought hard over my legislative service to do just that. I was a co-author of the REAP Act in Mississippi that banned the transgender mutilation of our minors in the state, along with Co-authoring other pieces of legislation that is now law like the Porn Age Verification law and Parental notification.
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Strongly Disagree
Gender dysphoria is a medical condition, and playing into that condition through transgender mutilations or chemical castration does nothing to cure or deal with the underlying psychological issues involved. Using taxpayer funds to do elective surgeries for one class of folks, is tantamount to opening Pandora's box for a myriad of others.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a conservative Christian and pastor. I believe we have all fallen short of the glory of God, live in a fallen world, and are all sinners. We have hope however, for forgiveness and salvation through God's son Jesus (who died as our atoning sacrifice). We need only recognize our fallen nature and our need for repentance, and then believe and ask for forgiveness. I believe in grace and the law. While grace is regularly extended to us by our Creator, it is not our license to sin. We should give grace to others, but with accountability in love.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
You can't buy alcohol, cigarettes, a plane ticket, enter a contract, or even drive without a photo ID, so why would we even consider not requiring it to ensure fair and legal elections?
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
The Electoral College is the one protection built into our form of government that ensures that a few regions or states with high populations, don't control the representation and direction of the government for all the rest.
EQUALITY
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Teaching anyone that they are inherently better or worse than someone else based solely on their race, is not just wrong, but evil. Like Dr. Martin Luther King said, a person should not be judged by the color of their skin, but the content of their character.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
I helped pass the ban against biological males in female sports in Mississippi, and fought and won against former State Superintendent Dr. Carey Wright when she was going to enact these awful policies being handed down from the U.S. D.O.E. in Mississippi.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Disagree
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Currently available to us today, Nuclear energy is the most reliable.
