OTHER INFORMATION

QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Strongly Agree

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

I have been endorsed by Mississippi Right to Life and National Right to Life, and my beliefs have always been consistent with those organizations’ beliefs. I always strive to protect the unborn, the most vulnerable among us, and will continue to do so as Lieutenant Governor.

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has a livable income.

Strongly Disagree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

Congress should pass a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.

Strongly Agree

Socialism provides a robust foundation for a stable economy.

Strongly Disagree

What is the best way to bring down unemployment?

Right now, unemployment in Mississippi is at historical lows. Our labor participation rate, however, is also low—the second lowest in the nation at 56 percent. Continuing to lower our unemployment rate and raising our labor force participation rate depends on getting people back to work in good paying jobs. I am focused on this goal by, among other things, ensuring students exit high school ready for college or career, and ensuring our community colleges are able to adequately serve our adult unemployed or underemployed population. When people are working and earning a meaningful wage, families are stronger and healthier.

What role should government play in boosting the economy?

The government can most help the economy by deregulating. We carried out this philosophy in revising the State’s archaic business laws and making it as easy as possible to form a business in Mississippi. Ensuring our K-12 graduates are prepared for college and career can also help boost our economy. Our businesses have told us their number one need is an educated workforce. We need to listen to them, provide them with skilled workers ready to hit the ground running on Day 1, and then get out of their way.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or business owners because of their deeply held religious beliefs.

Strongly Agree

Governments should not penalize those who define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Strongly Agree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

HEALTHCARE

It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has health insurance.

Strongly Disagree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

We must incentivize healthcare providers to live and work in our rural communities. This includes strengthening team-based and collaborative care agreements between physicians, nurses, and nurse practitioners, and funding rural scholarship and residency programs for healthcare professionals at all levels. We must also shore up our rural hospitals by considering and evaluating healthcare reform solutions implemented in other states with no net impact on the state budget. Additionally, I support emphasizing wellness and preventive care. Access to good healthcare should not start with an emergency room visit, but in the event of an emergency, no Mississippian should be 30 minutes from a facility equipped to provide necessary treatment.

NATIONAL SECURITY

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Strongly Agree

I support sanctuary cities.

Strongly Disagree

Islamic law (Sharia) should take precedence over national and state laws where there are Islamic majority communities in the U. S.

Strongly Disagree

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Strongly Agree

EDUCATION

Tuition-free public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

VALUES

Biblical values established a framework of morality which permitted our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

Any teaching to children on sex education in public schools must include all contraceptive methods, and should not show preference to abstinence.

Strongly Disagree

People should be allowed to use public restrooms, showers, and changing rooms based on "gender identity."

Strongly Disagree

Free speech is under attack on public university and college campuses.

Strongly Agree

Parents should be the primary authority in decisions affecting their minor children.

Strongly Agree

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

The checks and balances built into our Constitution protect against mankind’s tendencies toward greed and power. Checks and balances must be protected at all cost.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Christian, and I believe Christ died on the cross for our salvation. I believe we are called to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, repent, and embrace the teachings of the Gospels. My faith is my most important guiding principle, steering every decision I make in my personal and professional life.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

As Secretary of State, I worked hard to make it as easy as possible to form a business in Mississippi because I believe our businesses can succeed if government can get out of their way. I fought to maintain integrity in our elections by working to enact a constitutional Voter ID law and increasing our cybersecurity technology. I also fought to keep the federal government from flooding our land and ruining our nature resources in the South Delta, Southwest Mississippi, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I have always supported law enforcement in their efforts to keep our communities safe with programs like Behind the Badge, which humanizes our hard-working officers.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I received a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame, a law degree from Ole Miss, and a Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University. I spent most of my career as a businessman and representing other businessmen and women, so most of my experience derives from working with small businesses in the private sector. This has given me the perspective to consider and implement innovative solutions to government problems. We have never operated under the “we’ve always done it this way” philosophy, and this has allowed us to be more efficient and creative in serving taxpayers. Additionally, at the Secretary of State’s Office, I have experience drafting and implementing meaningful legislation, like Voter ID and insurance coverage for ABA therapy for children with autism, and a history of bringing Mississippians with many different perspectives together to solve a problem. This builds broad constituency and leads to a better solution.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

When I make a promise, I keep it. This is a principle I have lived by as Secretary of State, and I plan on bringing the same character and commitment to the Lieutenant Governor’s Office. Thank you for your support for Lieutenant Governor on November 5!
