Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
A woman's right to choose her reproductive care, whether receiving an abortion or not, should be allowed and take precedent as established by the United States Supreme Court.
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?
We need teachers and youth workers to recognize and report their suspicions of radicalization to the police and criminal justice authorities, as well as more closely monitor websites posting hate speech. In this way, it is possible to stop radicalization in time and prevent it from leading to terrorism.
What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
In 1987, Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall delivered a lecture, "The Constitution: A Living Document," in which he argued that the Constitution must be interpreted in light of the moral, political, and cultural climate of the age of interpretation.

I will fight for the real needs of the working families of Florida, rather than the powerful interests in Washington. With a proven track record of extraordinary private and public sector success as a self-made entrepreneur, and then as a City Commissioner, I demonstrate the leadership skills necessary to break one-party rule in Washington and bring Floridians together to get things done.
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
By supporting a bill, and or crafting legislation to pass a universal, single payer healthcare system.
What role should government play in boosting the economy?
The government's policies, actions, and agenda have a direct tie to the economy. We must ensure that out elected officials are acting in the best interest of our constituents.
What changes should be made to the tax code?
We need to stop unfairly taxing the lower and middle class of America, while leaving huge breaks for corporations and the wealthy.
What is the best way to bring down unemployment?
By better funding career placement programs, stimulating the economy, and paying workers a fair wage.
How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?
by holding our government spending accountable, all while ensuring the proper allocation of funds.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
As a 15 year principal of a magnet school of the arts, I received national and state recognition for my innovative ideas, initiatives and solutions created for schools, school communities, and the school district. I began volunteering in the community serving on the Obama08 nationwide campaign in Charleston, S. C. as well as the local Alachua County campaign once he won the primary. Afterwards, I served as the Membership chair of the Alachua County Democratic Executive Committee, the Finance Chair of the Gainesville Housing Authority Governing Board, and board member of the Alachua County Branch N.A.A.C.P. I also served in many leadership capacities at my church, Mt. Pleasant United Methodist.

Yvonne is a product of the Gainesville, Florida community; born, raised and educated. She is a ’71 and ’72 graduate from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Special Education. She has taught children with neurological and behavioral challenges in New York, Miami and Atlanta. While in Miami she became a counselor, staffing specialist, assistant principal and principal.
