QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Strongly Disagree

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Agree

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.

Neutral

Unfortunately our Legislators do not make hearings easy or oftentimes accessible to working individuals. If Lobbying is allowed by Corporations and Special Interest groups than School District's need to be able to lobby as well. The challenge comes in who assists the School Board with lobbying our legislators? The playing field has to be leveled and made equal before we can eliminate our ability to get our needs/messages to our Legislators.

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

Public education provides an equal playing field in that all people regardless of social economics has the ability to get an education equal to private institutions. I do not believe College should be free but the cost has become beyond what most citizens can afford. I am a huge supporter of our Community Colleges and those must remain affordable. I believe that children can thrive and learn even if they do not attend Pre-K programs and those children whose parents choose not to enroll them should not be penalized when entering traditional kindergarten.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Strongly Agree

School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Agree

I do not believe anyone should be discriminated against.

EDUCATION

What is the function of the local school board?

School Board - As our school board governs the district we should do so with the advice from the Superintendent. To provide local, citizen governance and oversight of education. Adopt goals and priorities and monitor for success. Adopt policies and review for effectiveness of policies. Hire and evaluate the Superintendent. Adopt a budget and set a tax rate. A school board must be responsive and receptive to parents, staff and students- encouraging an open dialogue among our diverse community. A board member must be accessible and willing to listen and collaborate with all the members of the community that elects them, including fellow Trustees and District staff. Superintendent - The superintendent manages the district, but he or she must do so with the oversight and management of the board, and within the framework of policies and priorities the board adopts.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

I believe we must get this back in the hands of our Local School Boards. We have our elected officials for the SBOE - they should be the first group to vet and set the selected resources that a school should choose from. Here is where we must remove the influence of the Big Tech and even our own legislators from being allowed to sit on any Company's Board of Directors if they provide curriculum or services for our schools. We need to have a much more transparent selection process of who participates in the committees that give input to SBOE when determining standards. Ultimately though school Boards should have the ability to vote not to use curriculum or resources that they do not feel best serves majority of the district.

When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?

Parents should never be restricted from speaking at School Boards. I believe that parents and taxpayers of the district should be allowed to not only give citizens comments during a Board meeting but also be allowed to speak on individual topics being discussed in meetings. I do not agree with the inability of the community to really have any discourse with board members before/during decision making presentations that occur at Board meetings.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

Mathematics, Reading, Writing & Comprehension, Science, Language Arts, Art & Music, Foreign Language, American History and well as World History, Personal Finances (upper grade levels), Physical Fitness, Vocational Learning

Which more closely matches your view of America's founding principles? A) Liberty and equality. B) Slavery and racism.

A

What does "equity in education" mean to you?

Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome. I do not think that any learning institute can provide exact resources nor can they provide an equal outcome. What Education does need to do is provide the services and programs to accommodate the special learning needs of all students. We cannot teach all by the using the same method or even in some cases use the same tools. Schools must be made to provide learning assistance to those who need it so that they can truly use the the resources and opportunities that the education offers.

Written parental consent (opt-in) must be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL).

Strongly Agree

The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.

Strongly Agree

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Strongly Agree

However I do believe that parents must provide their child an education.

School boards are accountable to parents and taxpayers.

Strongly Agree

Do you believe students should have access to materials that graphically depict and describe sexual acts?

No

All print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review.

Strongly Agree

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I choose to raise my children and granddaughter within the Lutheran Faith. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrections of the body, and the life everlasting.

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.

Strongly Agree

This is not the responsibility of our Schools.

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Strongly Agree

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

Ultimately it is the parents responsibility.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

If parents so choose - Human anatomy/the reproductive system

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Agree

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Watch any of the recorded school board meetings.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I believe a school board must be responsive and receptive to parents, staff and students, and taxpayers - encouraging an open dialogue among our diverse community. As one of your current board members I will continue to listen and collaborate with all the members of the Tri-Cities. I pledge to keep the GISD moving forward in bringing the community and district together for continued positive change, no looking back. I will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with parents and teachers for impactful resources for children with special education needs in our school district. I will be transparent and available to everyone in the Tri-Cities to make sure that we are held accountable for all approved Bond items completed as outlined.

2ND AMENDMENT

Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.

Disagree

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Under what circumstances (if any) should schools be allowed to require vaccinations?

I am only opposed to the COVID vaccination being mandatory. These vaccinations have not proven to eradicate this illness anymore than the Flu vaccinations has eradicated the Flu.

I support mask mandates.

Strongly Disagree

All official open meetings should be live streamed, recorded, and have transcripts available online for public access.

Agree

Except for the transcripts - this would be an unfunded mandate to have all meetings professionally transcribed. I do believe that real time closed caption should be made available.

All votes should be roll call votes and recorded in meeting minutes.
