What is the best way to bring down unemployment?
Growing Florida's economy with decent-paying jobs by attracting high-quality employers — the very kind of job creators who are unlikely to locate in the Sunshine State until and unless we clean up our red tide and toxic algae bloom-infested rivers and lakes. Sadly, our environment has been horribly neglected during the eight years of the Rick Scott administration. These are the same companies, incidentally, that will be frightened away by the Democratic nominee's corporate tax hike proposals to fund his Bernie Sanders-backed pocketful of pie-in-the-sky promises, including a $15 minimum wage, an immediate $10,000-hike in teacher pay and Medicare-for-All — a concept Sanders himself once said would bankrupt the country. My GOP opponent, a Washington backbencher, has spent the past six years towing his party's line on Capitol Hill as it drifted farther and farther to the right while doing little to encourage federal help in dealing with the state's growing water crisis.

Improving the health and security of all Floridians will be a top priority for our administration. The refusal of Rick Scott — the man responsible for the largest Medicare fraud case in U.S. history at the time — and the Republican-dominated Florida legislature to expand Medicaid coverage to some 600,000 to 700,000 working-class Floridians will forever be a blemish on this state. We must take immediate steps to ensure that everyone in Florida has access to quality, affordable health care. We can do that by not only expanding Medicaid coverage to low and middle-income Floridians, but also by adopting a statewide health care system similar to the Swiss health care model.

We must find a way to work together for the benefit of everyone, rich and poor alike. While I admittedly don't have the kinds of resources enjoyed by my billionaire-backed opponents who are expected to spend more than $100 million on this campaign, I humbly ask Floridians of every walk of life to take a chance on my candidacy and that of my running mate — former Republican State Senator and ex-Public Service Commissioner chair Nancy Argenziano — and show both parties that there's a better way.
