Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I believe abortion is justified when there is imminent risk to the mother, as determined by her doctor. Rape and incest are also extenuating circumstances that should be recognized. Practically speaking, I recognize that imposing legal restrictions will not stop people who have a different worldview than myself. This will instead encourage black markets for abortion, which makes the situation worse by endangering the mother. I believe the best approach is to work together to identify and eliminate the underlying contributing causes, such as financial issues, lack of stable family structure, etc., that encourage women and their families to choose abortion. I see contraceptive education and access as an effective means of avoiding unwanted conception and reducing abortions. I will also advocate for policies that ease the path to adoption. I hope to help women, their partners and their families find a better quality of life for themselves, their loved ones and their unborn children
What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
People will always tend to act in their own best interests, using whatever means are made available to them. The only way to prevent governmental power from being abused is to keep it to the minimum necessary to protect the public from bad actors, and to dilute even that power by keeping it out of the control of any one person or institution.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian, and believe God guides events on a general and personal level. There is a plan for each and all of us, and I try to have faith that even difficult personal situations have a purpose. I believe we must do our best to overcome hardships and to make the world a better place, and that we have free will to choose our own path. I also firmly support the separation of church and state. Government should not be a vehicle to enforce any particular religion or ideology upon others. We should instead rely on individuals, guided by their religious leaders, to make moral choices for themselves. We have a diversity of views in America, and it is not the place of government to impose one ideology upon the rest of us. As long as someone is not harming others by their actions, government should not take the place of a person's community and pastor.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
No Answer
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
My views on economic and social matters are for the most part libertarian. They are consistently in favor of limited government, as well as following the golden rule to treat others as you would want to be treated. Part of the problem with American politics today is that the wide variety of political thought is narrowed to only two points of view, and they are viewed as being polar opposites. In fact, both major parties agree that big government programs and policies are desirable. They just have different priorities for what government should try to accomplish. I support limited government and expansive personal freedoms, in line with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. My views may be found at kash2018.com/libertarian and kash2018.com/issues
What is the best way to bring down unemployment?
To reduce unemployment, we must remove as many barriers to entry for small businesses and self-employment as possible. This includes instituting a 1-year “warning period” where penalties for minor regulatory infractions are not penalized. I want you to feel empowered to go into business for yourself. If you see a need in the market, you should be able to fulfill that need without wading through miles of red-tape. State occupational licensing should be reduced. If you prefer to use a privately certified landscaper, nail stylist, or cosmetologist, you should have that choice. Excessive state-level licensing mandates are part of a system that reduces economic opportunity in our poorest communities. We should also decrease the minimum wage for those who have not recently been in the workforce. This will enable people to get a first job or pursue a new career, while still learning their trade.
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
In a free market, price signals encourage effective use of resources and innovation, driving costs down and quality up. Healthcare costs have soared because under our current insurance-based system, there is no longer a real direct cost associated with each procedure. The prices are grossly inflated, then covered by insurance companies, who also receive discounts and kickbacks from medical providers. We need to restore the connection between care and cost. I will advocate for models such as direct primary care, where patients pay out of pocket for regular, predictable medical expenses. For state Medicaid programs, I would like to see increased copays for emergency room visits. Patients who cannot afford the copay would apply for a state subsidy, submitting documentation justifying the need for emergency services.
What role should government play in boosting the economy?
Government is inherently unable to spend money as effectively as private individuals, due to the subjective nature of monetary value. The best thing government could do to help the economy is to reduce spending. Government can also allow taxpayers more say in how their tax dollars are spent by increasing the availability of tax credits for donations to approved welfare charities. This will lead to a more effective and efficient use of resources in the public sector.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
In 20 years of Navy service, I successfully worked with and led people from varying ideological and social backgrounds. I have and will work with people from any political party to pass good legislation. At the same time, I will also work to expose corrupt politicians and practices regardless of party affiliation. Through my experiences in family court, I have seen firsthand how Illinois government has been corrupted and does not serve the interests of average citizens. It was an eye-opening experience, and I have since seen how this is true in other areas of our state governmental systems. I will work tirelessly to hold politicians, judges and public officials accountable, and to increase transparency in all areas of government.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
Your next Governor should be someone who can relate to you, and understand what it means to be squeezed by increasing property, income, and sales taxes, in a tight job market. Most of us are just doing our best to get by in a state that routinely raises taxes while operating on a deficit. I am running to represent all the people of Illinois in Springfield. As Governor, I plan to spend most of my time on the road in our state, visiting local communities and hearing their needs and concerns. I will hold open office hours, giving citizens a chance to speak to me directly. We've had enough of Democrats and Republicans playing political games while not fixing the structural financial problems facing our state. Unlike many of our current politicians, I will understand and remember who I work for - you, the people of Illinois.
