Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

I concur with the Casey decision: (1) Women have the right to choose to have an abortion prior to viability and to do so without undue interference from the State; (2) the State can restrict the abortion procedure post viability, so long as the law contains exceptions for pregnancies which endanger the woman's life or health; and (3) the State has legitimate interests from the outset of the pregnancy in protecting the health of the woman and the life of the fetus that may become a child. (Planned Parenthood v Casey, Wikipedia.org)

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?

The eradicate the threat, I would focus on what the US can do to reduce it's projection of power abroad. We should reduce our own threatening behavior first. Real conservatives know that we can't be searching for monsters abroad and have tranquility at home. I support significant reductions in military spending and foreign arms sales. I would impose limits on NATO expansion and reduce its role in regime change. I advocate full withdrawal from Syria and “hands off” policy toward the Assad regime. I would work to prevent war with Russia, starting with removal of the aggressive American sanctions and restoration of their diplomatic presence in the US. Americans need to realize that we made a terrible mistake by staying in Afghanistan. It was a fool's errand. We need to close our bases, remove our hardware, bring our troops home and withdraw from further intervention in Afghanistan.

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

Lord Acton: Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

This question is too personal. However, in person, I am always happy to talk to people openly about how to live a good life and to how to create lasting happiness for oneself and loved ones.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

No Answer

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

I am a libertarian, and based on your right-left one-dimensional framework above, I don't fit. I am not the only candidate who doesn't feel comfortable with this outdated political model. I am conservative on fiscal matters and liberal on social matters. Liberals and conservatives have shown themselves to be incapable of resisting the use of government power for their own ends. In this election, both conservatives and liberal are authoritarian in their approach to leadership. I feel strongly that we need to abandon the major parties to bring new, independent and unaffiliated voters into the system. We put hard limits on our system of "limited" government. How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

I support repealing ACA. Insurance should cover unpredictable health care expenses. Third-party payer systems that 'cover all medical needs' are flawed since they mix the routine, predictable expenditures with the emergencies. Consumers of medical care under ACA have no recourse other than to stop paying high premiums or risk medical and financial catastrophe. To make matters worse, consumers then pay exorbitant prices at the point of sale. ACA's costs will continue to spiral out of control until customers can pry out the real price of healthcare as opposed to the fake and inflated prices that appear on medical bills.

What role should government play in boosting the economy?

I am the only anti-corruption candidate in the race. In Congress, I would oppose "stimulus" spending. I will work for fairness in business competition and against the Federal government's habit of picking economic winners and losers. Further, I would require that all 'emergency' measures taken for the sake of stimulating the economy have a transparency clause to track the favoritism that results. I would expose hidden taxpayer liabilities, where costs show up in the future as an increased long-term debt burden. I support low taxes across the board and leaving private savings to the private sector to promote economic growth.

What changes should be made to the tax code?

Many liberty-minded voters believe that "taxation is theft". I disagree. Taxation is worse than theft. The income tax in particular is a tool of political power that targets individuals and movements (such as the Tea Party). It is a form of financial surveillance that has no place in a free society. I would work toward abolition of the income tax. Other taxes are simply forms of fees charged for services. Typically, people object because the service is poor and the cost is high. Any business that ripped people off like that would not survive. There are better public service models. Some can work to serve customers and can be paid for from fees. No one objects to a decent fee for decent service. There is no substitute for consumers demanding better services and owners and managers operating in a competitive market to fulfill needs. Most government administrators are poor managers, and my article about Veterans Reform talks about this problem in detail.

What is the best way to bring down unemployment?

I don't advocate direct manipulation of employment by the Federal government. I would work for fairness in business competition and against the habit of bureaucrats picking economic winners and losers. I would require that all “emergency” measures taken for the sake of stimulating the economy have a transparency clause to track the favoritism that evolves behind the scenes. I would remove tricks played on taxpayers, where costs are hidden from the public only to show up later as increased long-term government debt burden. I want to end manipulation of savings rates to very low levels and I want to increase incentives for savers to accumulate real savings for their businesses and retirement. I would require a balanced budget, focused on spending limitations, and would strongly support automatic fiscal constraints when budgets are not balanced.

How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?

Social Security is not financially viable. It requires structural changes to meet basic standards of soundness and fairness. It must be modified by raising contributions from taxpayers, borrowing money, or lowering benefits. I oppose higher taxes, further indebtedness and undue burdens on young workers. As a financial professional, I have a duty to protect the elderly against false promises and poorly designed retirement plans. Working in Congress, I recognize that the benefit formula must reflect the reality that we are living and working longer.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I have been in the job market for 45 years. After mowing lawns and working at gas stations, and getting a late start in college, I graduated Phi Beta Kappa, with two degrees, and moved into banking as an economist, and then moved further professionally into high technology and finance. I had a family, raised 2 children, dabbled in academia and the arts. My wife was a distinguished public artist whose large, collaborative works with volunteers adorn Charlotte. As I approach retirement, I want to meet new challenges, and apply my rich life experience to solving problems in this very ill-tempered period. I have a no-nonsense, practical approach to public services and I am fully capable of working as a Congressman. I am an independent thinker. I am not afraid to agree with Trump when his policy is the right one, and I was not afraid to agree with Obama when he did the right thing.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

Neither of the other two candidates have run in a general election. Neither of them have held public office. Neither of them are temperamentally suited for the position. Neither of them have the professional experience and demeanor for the job. Neither of them will sit before an adversarial audience to take questions. Moreover, neither of them wants to face me in an actual debate. Neither of their campaigns will return calls or emails or questions from my campaign. They have $4 Million dollars to spend on advertising. I have individual donations only, volunteers, and no corporate sponsors. If you want an independent candidate, you now have an opportunity. Don't waste your vote on the others. The bitter partisan fighting we are witnessing is unsustainable. Voters must punish the governing parties at the ballot box.
