ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

No Answer

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

The Superintendent of Public Instruction is a non-partisan race. While my opponent has wielded his partisan agenda against parents, students and teachers, I refuse to sacrifice our kids to partisanship. Our kids aren't partisan and our Superintendent shouldn't be either!

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I'm a teacher, mother, wife, business owner, and nonprofit director. I earned my a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction and graduated with BA in business from Pacific Lutheran University after earning my AA at 17. As part of a military family I have attended dozens of public schools nationwide. I'm the Executive Director for the Center for Latino Leadership, an education-based nonprofit and was the first Washingtonian selected for global education forum as part of the German Marshall Fund Scholar program. Previously I was a member of the Student Data task force which operated under the OSPI Opportunity Gap Oversight Committee before being asked to serve on the Governor’s Commission on Hispanic Affairs. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of the state of our schools and how we can fix them to better serve students and families. I understand both the political and managerial roles the Superintendent and believe I am the best person for the job!

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

I have never committed or been convicted of a felony or sexual misconduct.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

Our schools are facing a defining moment. Teachers, students and teachers alike aren't happy and the opportunity gap is widening. Now is our chance to reimagine a better education system. The status quo is no longer an option. To improve our school system, we need to: use technology to innovate classrooms and unlock possibilities for personalized learning; provide school schedules that fit the needs of working families and teachers; and teach students key life skills like managing finances, living independently, and resolving conflicts. With kids of my own in public schools, I support parental choice and local control. The incumbent ignored parents and educators by championing a policy that teaches sexual positions to 4th graders! Meanwhile, nearly half of Washington’s students are failing to meet state standards in core subjects. We will update our school system to meet the needs of families, teachers, and the future economy. Our kids deserve better, we can achieve more!

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
