Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Abortion is a medical decision between a woman and her doctor. I do not believe that the government should have input in personal medical decisions.

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?

The United States should stop invading and colonizing sovereign nations in the Middle East, which perpetuates radical Islamic terrorism and hatred of the West. The United States should also be more prudent in their relationship with countries such as Saudi Arabia which have historically funded radical Islamic groups.

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

America's Founders were painfully aware of the experience that absolute power corrupts absolutely. While we need a governmental system to protect society from bad actors and provide a level of organizational structure, we cannot give any one person or organization too much power.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I was raised with New Testament Christian morals and cultural values. I believe in treating others the way you wish to be treated, respecting others' individual situations, and the need to put the good of the larger group ahead of my own personal needs in order to live in the best possible society. I also believe in hard work and always taking personal responsibility for my shortcomings. I respect my elders and try to always see the good in people. I am not a spiritual person and do not attend religious services but I celebrate Christian holidays with my family. I respect and appreciate the importance of spirituality to most people and believe in the rights endowed to us by the First Amendment which allows all of us to practice our own religious beliefs free from government persecution, so long as that practice does not infringe upon the rights of others.

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

I would prefer to see a Medicare-for-all solution, funded by the large corporations who are no longer paying for their employees' health benefits and wasting their HR departments' resources negotiating plans with insurance companies. Private health insurance would still be available for supplemental coverage, just like our current Medicare system. I realize that this is not an immediate possibility, however, and would move to provide a publicly available option on the marketplace that keeps coverage costs low and sets reasonable prices for service from providers, which will in turn fuel competition from the private health insurance market. Additionally, we need to expand low-cost community health centers that are accessible to all patients and provide incentives for private practice groups to enter into a co-op model with patients that allow reasonable fixed monthly payments for outpatient medical services outside of insurance. Expanding preventive care will save everyone money!

What role should government play in boosting the economy?

The government's role is to protect its citizens, not its economy. Citizens need protection from predatory corporations and corporations ought to be limited in their individual abilities to control the market (i.e. protections against monopolies) but the government should not play an active role in improving the economy on a macro level by pumping money into failing corporations. Allow corporations to fail and protect the workers who may need unemployment assistance and reemployment training.

What changes should be made to the tax code?

We need to reinstate SALT and close corporate tax loopholes so the effective corporate tax rate actually covers the enormous deficit. I am not averse to raising corporate taxes if they are offset with incentives that benefit workers. (i.e. tax breaks for job creation and training, tax breaks for providing better employee benefit packages, etc.) I do not think we should raise the tax rate on individuals.

What is the best way to bring down unemployment?

The best way to bring down unemployment is to improve our education system so citizens leave school ready to work in the industries that are hiring and looking for trained workers. Additionally, corporations should be incentivized for hiring unskilled workers and training them to obtain the skillsets necessary to do the work that's needed. Lower unemployment raises consumer demand, which further fuels the need to hire more workers to increase productivity.

How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?

Corporations that no longer provide employee pensions should pay more into the Social Security fund to provide retirement income for their employees. Taxes collected from 401k disbursements should be allocated to the Social Security fund. We also need to continually raise the savings caps on private retirement savings plans, as we can allocate the taxes collected from the disbursement of those savings towards Social Security benefits.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I graduated from college in the middle of the 2008 recession so I understand that the economy has not improved for a number of people on a personal level. Getting a job and building my career from the ground up was a challenge. My experience in administrative and project management roles are directly correlative to the skills necessary to legislate. A project manager's job is to take the diverse needs of multiple stakeholders, control for timeline, budget, and project scope, and shepherd the best possible product to market that meeds the needs of all stakeholders. Legislation is the same process, except the stakeholders are constituents and the product is a bill. Additionally, as a web developer, I am knowledgable on the technologies that impact our lives and require better governance. Most of our lawmakers have no concept for how big data, algorithms, or AI work. I've worked with these technologies first-hand and know their power, possibilities, strengths, and limitations.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

We forget so easily that politicians and members of the opposing political party are people too! We sleep, eat food, breathe air, and have complex feelings and experiences. I am a human being, just like you. It is deeply important to me that recognizing and celebrating everyone's humanity becomes front and center in such a divisive political climate. Also, I am married and a homeowner. My husband and I share our home with two rescue dogs and three cats who we love and care for tremendously. My family always comes first, and understanding that my constituents feel similarly about their own families is what qualifies me to represent you in Congress.
