Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

I believe in the intrinsic value of the U.S. Constitution and the laws of our country, and that redress is found through legislation. Abortions have decreased over the past ten years. Nationwide, the number of abortions performed from 2008 to 2018 is down 22%. In Nevada it is down 32.4%. This should be good news for every pro-life and pro-choice voice. Those who have abortions compared to the general population put the US at 0.001%. This is lower than all countries of our size, plus Canada, UK, New Zealand, China and Japan. Based on population, the United States is only behind a handful of northern European countries, such as Netherlands and Sweden, and Australia. Through education and support of the use of birth control and the costs of pregnancy, we can lower unexpected pregnancies (the root cause of abortions). Please see our policy paper "Women's Issues" available at TownsendForNevada.com/downloads.

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?

Terrorism must remain at the top of the U.S. national security agenda. This is a complex issue that involves attacking and stopping radical religious views at the source, providing education to those who believe in such views, supporting our military, banning Sharia law in the United States, working with our allies to halt terrorist organization's money flow and travel abilities, and securing our and other nations' nuclear fuel and stockpiles. We should mount aggressive counter-intelligence and digital education campaigns to attempt to change the views of impressionable young people in dangerous countries. While only 94 Americans have died on our shores from jihadist attacks since 9/11, thousands more have died in the fight against terrorism. We must continue our vigilance to keep terrorists out of US territories, which includes securing our borders and tracking down visa overstayers. We must expand our use of drones and cluster drones to root out and destroy terrorist cells.

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

James Madison summed this up when he wrote, "The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny." He and the framers understood that mankind is not without sin, and thus, the powers of the U.S. Constitution were written to provide a roadmap, based in Godly beliefs and morality, that would guide America.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

My spiritual beliefs are deeply personal to me. I believe in God. I believe in treating all living things with respect and honor. The sanctity of life is important to me. This belief shapes my empathy for those less fortunate. It is why I believe every child born should be given the best care, education, and opportunity that are available. It is why I believe, when we send our men and women of the military into harm’s way, we provide every means necessary to protect them. It’s why I believe law enforcement, which is tasked with enforcing our laws and putting their lives on the line every time they wear a badge, should have the funding and body armor needed to come home at the end of the night. It is why I no longer believe in the death penalty (beyond the fact it costs more to put a prisoner on death row and through the final act than to keep them imprisoned for life). My favorite Bible quote is Luke 12:48, "From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be req

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Somewhat Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

You can read my "12 Big Ideas for Nevada" and download my policy papers at www.TownsendForNevada.com. You can also read my book, "Yes You Can! How to be a Success no Matter who you are or where you're from", available at Amazon.com. I am a combination of fiscal conservatism and social compassion, focused on maximizing taxpayer dollars to get results. I approach problems to find the root cause, then use data and facts to formulate a possible solution. I believe innovation and accountability are important skills in a member of Congress. I believe we have too many attorneys in Congress and need more business owners, doctors, and people who have created jobs. For instance, my companies (Lycos, YouthStream Media Networks, Deja.com (now ebay and Google), Newegg.com, RSI, and others have created over 4,500 jobs. I understand that when someone has rewarding employment, their non-career issues tend to disappear, so I focus on job creation as a means to address social issues.

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

The health care problem is mostly about insurance and pharmaceutical drug costs. The most effective means to lower health care coverage costs is to take the intermediaries out of health care services. The best way to lower drug costs is through our plan to enact Median Market Pricing, whereby any company wishing to sell an FDA-approved drug in the United States cannot sell it for more than the average global price, plus 10%. This would reduce drug costs by 40%. There are several others methods which, as this cannot be answered in the space provided, can be found at www.TownsendForNevada.com/downloads. Download the policy paper, "Affordable Healthcare" and also see "Our Veterans & Military".

What role should government play in boosting the economy?

What changes should be made to the tax code?

What is the best way to bring down unemployment?

Education, training and retraining, attract new industries to Nevada, and address homelessness. Fix health care, elementary and secondary education, and prepare young people for the jobs of the future. As this cannot be answered the space provided, please see www.TownsendForNevada.com/downloads to download the policy papers, "Jobs & the Economy", "Education", and "Homelessness".

How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?

I have a plan that will fully fund Social Security for the next 80 years, increasing benefits, shoring up Medicare and Medicaid, and eliminating taxes for 10 million senior citizens. As this cannot be answered the space provided, please see www.TownsendForNevada.com/downloads to download the policy paper, Affordable Healthcare.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I had no intention of running for US House of Representatives and only made the decision on February 20th, after seeing the prospective candidates and realizing that each brings with them the same old talking points that have not been successful in the past. Congress doesn’t need more lawyers or people who have spent their careers at the public trough. Congress needs innovators and people who can look at data and facts and devise solutions. It needs people willing to put aside Party labels and band together to make positive changes. It requires people who have created jobs, who have taken companies public, who have traveled and experienced other governments and cultures. It requires people who are technically astute and can understand new threats (cyber-bullying, hacking, privacy) and new opportunities (cost savings, weaponry, education, health). I’m setting aside my two companies and foundation to focus on bringing “12 Big Ideas for Nevada” to Washington, DC.
