QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

Because of my strong pro-life record, Texas Right to Life named me “Pro-Life Champion” of the 88th Legislature. I was one of four Joint Authors of the Texas Heartbeat bill, which has saved over 35,000 babies. As a result, I was named as a defendant in at least 14 lawsuits seeking to overturn this law. On the circumstances question, when there is fetal demise (meaning there is a deceased baby in the womb), the mother should be allowed to have the procedure necessary to preserve her health.

Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.

Strongly Agree

As the Biden administration has loosened restrictions which endanger the lives of women, I authored & passed legislation that would require these essential safety standards in Texas. Lax enforcement by the Biden Administration allowed out-of-state doctors to prescribe abortion-inducing drugs that are delivered through the mail with no medical supervision. As a nurse, I believed we had to act in order to go after these individuals who flagrantly violated Texas laws.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

Strongly agree and I have voted for measures which would ban the use of state and local taxpayer dollars going to abortion providers. Because of our efforts, Texas taxpayers no longer fund any abortion providers.

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Strongly Disagree

I believe strongly in preserving life at all stages. Recently, I authored and passed legislation that provides new protections for vulnerable patients facing the threat of a hospital ending life sustaining treatment against the families wishes. Previously, a hospital ethics board, without input from the effecting family, could decide that a patient’s life-sustaining medical treatment is no longer warranted. If the family did not find a new provider within 10 days, treatment could be stopped.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

Never. Religious expression and the freedom to worship is foundational to our nation, but these freedoms are increasingly under assault. I took action to protect religious liberty, including giving voters the opportunity to amend the Constitution and ban local officials from closing houses of worship. In the November 2021 Constitutional election, voters strongly approved this amendment, ensuring that the right to worship in Texas is enshrined in the state Constitution.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Strongly Agree

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

Israel is our strongest ally in the middle east and a major trading partner with Texas. As a follower of Christ, I believe we have unique obligation to support God’s chosen people, especially during these perilous times when Israel is under attack. I strongly supported HR 10, which expressed our solidarity with Israel after the bloody attacks by Hamas. I’ve voted for Anti-BDS legislation which prohibits Texas from investing in any companies which boycott Israel.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

Medicaid and Medicare are intended to be safety net programs to care for the elderly and disabled, our most vulnerable citizens and should remain available.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

Never. I voted to ban vaccine mandates. I was recently named one of only 7 “Champion Legislators” by Texans for Medical Freedom, recognizing my role in helping to pass the most comprehensive ban on employer COVID-19 vaccine mandates in the country.

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

In Texas, we support free enterprise and private property rights, and as a result we are the economic engine of the nation. Texas is one of only seven states without an income tax. In 2017, I authored a bill to ban a state income tax in Texas, and in 2019 voters amended the Texas Constitution to permanently ban a state income tax.

What is your position on the minimum wage?

In capitalism, the marketplace sets the value of goods and services. In states that have enacted minimum wage mandates, the mandates exceed what the marketplace will support. Low skill, entry level workers are the ones most harmed by this policy.

Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?

No

During the last legislative session I voted to ban this practice, ensuring that ESG criteria are not used by state agencies to determine the insurance rates paid by Texans. Our public investments should be driven by economics, not by liberal activists promoting climate change or the latest social justice campaign.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Agree

While border security is a federal issue, no state has done more than Texas to secure our border. Our federal government has failed to secure our border and has even hindered the efforts of Texas to do so. I have proudly voted for billions of dollars in funding to support efforts to secure our Southern border, including building a wall and authorizing law enforcement to arrest and deport illegals.

EDUCATION

The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.

Strongly Agree

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.

Strongly Disagree

Our police officers who are working to keep us safe need our support, not funding cuts. I helped pass a bill that blocks large cities from defunding their police departments. I personally authored a bill that prevents the liberal woke mob from endangering the lives of police officers. I also helped pass a bill that makes it harder for dangerous criminal to get out on bail.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I am endorsed by the NRA. I co-authored and championed passage of the Texas Constitutional Carry bill, ensuring Texans can protect themselves without requiring a license to carry for their handguns. Obviously, children should not be permitted to own guns.

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

Yes

I voted for the School Marshall program that allows trained school personnel to be armed in schools with the approval of the local school board. Lives can be saved in areas with longer police response times.

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

The role of government is to protect the rights of it’s citizens. Here in Texas, we face a hostile federal government, led by Joe Biden, that is undermining our freedoms while ignoring border security.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

VALUES

Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.

Strongly Agree

There are sinister forces seeking to destroy the innocence of our children, pushing risky and unproven procedures and surgeries which are often irreversible. I was a Joint Author of the bills to ban gender mutualization, so that we protect children from these dangerous surgeries that are not based in science.

Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.

Strongly Agree

Parents rights are being undermined by those seeking to assert the government’s role in decisions in which they have no business intervening.

Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.

Strongly Disagree

I was a Joint Author of the bill banning gender transition services for children. I was proud to stand my ground against transgender radicals and get this measure passed into law.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Strongly Agree

The traditional family is the foundation of our society and must be protected, nurtured and preserved.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a born again Christian who attends a Bible Church. I read the Bible (the Word of God) daily and it guides how I live my life. Additionally I participate in Scripture memory program so that I can hide "His Word" in my heart.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

I have always supported our Voter ID laws so that we can verify who is actually voting, and I voted to extend voter ID requirements to those who vote by mail.

States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.

Strongly Disagree

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Racism is abhorrent to the belief that God created all of us equally and in his image. I oppose racism in any form, and it should be condemned. However, my concern about highlighting racism as a “domestic security threat” is a slippery slope which could lead to government agencies having the power to determine what is and what isn’t racism.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

Critical Race Theory (CRT) is a dangerous and divisive movement that assumes the very worst about people, without any evidence, simply because of their skin color. CRT even promotes the false view that our nation was founded based in racism, and teaches our kids that they belong to one of two groups: the oppressed, or the oppressor. I worked to pass a bill to ban the teaching of CRT in our public school systems.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Agree

I was a Joint Author of the bills banning biological males from participating in women’s sports. Males have more size and more muscle strength, giving them an unfair advantage over females. This is about fairness, and quite frankly reducing the safety risk to young girls when they are forced to compete against biological males. At the signing ceremony when these bills became law, those of us present were cussed at, spat upon, and harassed by liberal activists opposed to these efforts.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.

C. Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

Traditional thermal energy sources such as oil and natural gas provide the most reliable source of energy to ensure that our lights stay on, regardless of the weather.
