OTHER INFORMATION
QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Abortion should not be allowed except in the very rare case where the mother's life is in jeopardy as certified by an attesting physician.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?
We need to make sure that Social Security is there for future generations by making necessary reforms that will fully fund this liability and take recommendations that include examining the full retirement age.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
I advocate a 1% reduction of federal spending, e.g. "The Penny Plan" and a thorough review of every program must take place. The federal Department of Education which has seen great federal expansion the last 40 years, foreign aid, and "Use it or Lose It" components of one-year budgeting must be part of the solution. Entitlement reform must be the serious charge of a conservative US House along with ensuring our unfunded liabilities are fully funded and solvent for future generations.
Under what circumstances should taxpayers help pay off existing student loans?
For military members who have completed a term of service in support of the United States government and in making sacrifices to uphold the Constitution.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
"Separation of church and state" means that the United States will not have a state-sponsored official religion such as the Anglican church. We must understand that the overuse of Jefferson's phrase in a single letter has been seized upon by the Left as some who seek to drive any discussion of faith out of the public sphere – to reduce it to something we only talk about on Sunday mornings. Congress must respect our Judeo-Christian tradition, natural law, and our historic rights and values. I am a chaplain in the Army National Guard. My faith in God is a part of my life each and every day. It is the foundation of who I am as a man, as a father, and as a follower of Christ. I am not afraid to profess my faith, and I believe we need more – not less – discussion of faith from our elected officials and community leaders.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
I support the elimination of private healthcare insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
I would promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable, and accessible for all by introducing free market principles: shopping for insurance across state lines, lessening the regulatory burdens, increasing transparency in pricing so that consumers can diagnose cost-benefit values before procedures, and opening up (more rather than less) types of insurance plans. I oppose so-called "Medicare for All" funding, which would end Tricare that Soldiers/veterans depend upon. Obamacare must be repealed as if it was never enacted. Having health savings accounts (HSAs) that have the same tax status as employer-based coverage is also key. Finally, states can have high-risk pools that address pre-existing conditions.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?
The United States should use all means necessary to eliminate actionable threats that pose harm to the American people. This includes using intelligence assets, economic sanctions, and when necessary, the American military. We must also not allow a "politically correct" policing of language to circumvent us from calling Islamic terrorism what it is. Eradicating the threat of radical Islamic terrorism includes steadfast support of Israel, a matter of right and wrong. One of our closest allies and trading partners, Israel must fight against surrounding countries seeking its destruction. From a military perspective, and because they have been intimately involved in the fight for their very existence, Israel must remain one of our key allies in the existential struggle against radical Islamic terrorism. I will fight against all BDS efforts in Congress.
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Agree
Employers should be required to use E-verify to confirm the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
The U.S. should have an immigration policy that puts America first in terms of meeting the needs of the country from a labor, intellectual, and innovation capital standpoint. The level of immigration and numbers must be sustainable. The United States should welcome only legal immigrants and remain steadfast in ending illegal immigration as we now know it without amensty. There is a crisis on our southern border. Tens of thousands of undocumented immigrants are overwhelming our border security and our systems designed to keep our nation safe. We must secure the border. We must build the wall. We must increase funding for border control. We must fully vet those who wish to enter our country. We must close the asylum loophole which is being unfairly exploited. We must once again return our country to the rule of law.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
The bedrock of my life and purpose is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever--as a husband and father, a chaplain and spiritual leader in the military, as a public servant. I aspire to glorify God in public service and returning our nation and Congress to respect for our historic rights and values. I am a Bible-believing conservative Christian who believes that "there is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ...does not cry Mine," the inerrancy of Scripture, the Apostle's Creed, the providence of God, and the salvation found only in Christ Jesus. I believe that our rights come from God, not from man and that limited self-government with personal responsibility is critical to the survival of our republic. I believe in the value of all lives from conception until natural death, in biblical marriage, and that ideas of socialism are inimical to this republic, the faith of our Founding Fathers, and the Constitution upon which the nation was founded
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
I have a 100% pro-life voting record in the Iowa House, even when necessary, going against the majority position of my caucus when it came to taxpayer funding of abortion: https://www.jeremytaylorforcongress.com/taylor-announces-pro-life-endorsement-and-defend-life-agenda My support of our Second Amendment, a secure border and end to illegal immigration, & a balanced budget is bold and clear. I sponsored several pieces of legislation that made their way from Judiciary into law today under a divided government for tougher sentencing for certain violent offenders and domestic abusers. I earned an "A" ranking from the NRA and American conservative union. I consistently voted for lower tax levies at the local level on a record basis and for smarter, smaller, and more effective government. I have made clear my desire to get in the IA-04 race is that we must win the US House back for constitutional principles.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I am a constitutionalist who can win, sit on committees, and be recognized by President Trump. Yet, I will not be "go along to get along" establishment Republican. Instead, I am a conservative of principle who will govern exactly like I campaign. I will protect life, defend the 2nd Amendment, fight for smaller government, and focus on issues facing Iowa's 4th. With our 6 kids, Kim and I have built our lives on hard work, faith in God, family values, and a desire to serve. We understand that our freedoms must be preserved. ? We must keep focused on the kind of future we want to leave to our children. We face a $23 trillion debt, higher taxes, the erosion of our freedoms, illegal immigration without securing the border, and the specter of socialism even in Congress. I will get to work to preserve our historic rights and values bringing my proven conservative track record and military experience as a Soldier and chaplain to Congress. CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Strongly Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Current restrictions on gun ownership are sufficient such as felony conviction to protect public safety. I do not seek expansion of federal law to make gun ownership more restrictive. Our nation’s Founders wrote the 2nd Amendment to enshrine in our Constitution our God-given rights as Americans. Just a few years earlier, they had taken up arms against tyranny, and they understood that an armed populace is essential to the preservation of liberty.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
I support BDS (boycott, divestment, and sanction) against Israel if they refuse to allow the creation of a Palestinian state.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Strongly Disagree
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1. Federal Heartbeat Bill and a 10-part "Defend Life" plan which can be found here: https://www.jeremytaylorforcongress.com/taylor-announces-pro-life-endorsement-and-defend-life-agenda 2. "The Penny Plan" reduction in federal spending 3. Balanced Budget Amendment
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism is not a threat to domestic security on the same level as Islamic terrorism. However, racism and the darkness of harming anyone created in God's image as lesser than is a serious issue that when taken to such a degree as to result in physical harm, violence, or criminality should be punished to the fullest extent of the law and has no place in our society.
