Please defend your answer to the previous question by referencing your publicly available track record.
I have consistently supported limited government, local control of schools, the teaching of the American free enterprise system and patriotic values. While I support the notion of college and career readiness, I believe that the overarching constitutional charge for education is preparation for informed, discerning citizenship.

Additional comment from candidate:
I should address the few of my responses from an earlier portion of the survey. "It is the government’s responsibility to be sure children are properly educated." The Texas Constitution describes this as a responsibility of the legislature: "A general diffusion of knowledge being essential to the preservation of the liberties and rights of the people, it shall be the duty of the Legislature of the State to establish and make suitable provision for the support and maintenance of an efficient system of public free schools." Texas Constitution, Article 7. "Biology textbooks which do not teach both the scientific strengths and weaknesses of the theory of evolution should be rejected." In Texas, by law, a textbook which meets 50% of state standards and does not contain a factual error, cannot be rejected from the approved list. Therefore, because I subscribe to the notion of the rule of law, I cannot make a definitive response to this statement.
