What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

I believe the most important reason that the Founders carefully lined out separation of powers, clear and defined powers and our Bill of Rights is because of the basic concept that Power Corrupts and Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely. Man made government can not be trusted to self contain and therefor the people needed to ensure that their GOD given rights were secured.

Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.

1. GOD 2. The People (who derive their rights from GOD) 3. The States (Who receive their powers from the people) 4. The Constitution (which receives its powers from the people thru the states) 5. Congress, Executive and Supreme Court (equal power

Additional comment from candidate:

I want to explain #12 a little more. The founders specifically created a Republic, not a Democracy, because they knew history showed that true democracies were short lived and quickly became mob rule. They decided on a Representative Democracy so the people would have control, but without mob rule fears of a strict Democracy. However, the State of Ohio, has a mixture, which allows Democratic Process on local issues, tax levies, State Constitutional Amendments, repeal and initiated legislation. So that is why I marked disagree. We are a Republic, not a democracy, with some exceptions on the state and local level.
