QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

I am against abortion.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

We should not fund abortion.

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Strongly Disagree

Life is sacred.

ECONOMY

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

A move to a consumption tax would give taxpayers a measure of control over their taxation AND would tax those who otherwise would escape any payment at all.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

I would eliminate much of the overseas government support, ass well as dramatically reduce welfare and healthcare spending. For those who cry foul, there is nothing to prevent individuals from being charitable to those in need - the reason for removing these as government "hand-outs" is that they invite abuse and fraud.

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

A public guarantee disconnects the cost of education from rational market forces. With a public guarantee, educational institutions have an incentive to raise their fees, knowing student borrowers are guaranteed the loans they will require. The education is not tied to any current o future value - students are not oncentivized to make rational educational choices.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

Forcing someone to perform a service they feel violates their belief robs them of their right to express their beliefs, treating them as second class. Those who desire the service are free to seek the service elsewhere. if they can find no one to provide it, they may take the opportunity to create a new industry - so in the end, arguably, everyone is better off. More succinctly, forcing a group to provide a service they do not wish to is just tyranny.

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

None. The first amendment protects churches from government overreach and control. What many may not understand is that the first amendment does not protect the government from churches - pastors and congregations are free to engage in political discourse and exert influence in any way they see fit.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

I believe we should begin a systematic program to end federally funded healthcare programs. It is not reasonable to expect such a move to happen overnight. The move must be deliberate and methodically implemented over time because so many are firmly ensnared in the programs. Many alternative programs already exist - direct primary care, medical cost-sharing programs, religious-based medical expense sharing programs, and, let us not forget, private insurance.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

Mandates of any kind are a form of tyranny, even if well-intentioned. They rob us of free will, and reduce us to the same status as domestic animals, treating us as house pets, cattle, or sheep.

NATIONAL SECURITY

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

Islam is the religion of blood and war. It must be confronted; our strategy has been muddled. As with any campaign, the first task is to clearly define the enemy, define the goals of the campaign, and finally, to define the campaign. It will require a mix - a very thoughtful mix - to combine diplomatic, legal, economic, social, military, and clandestine strategies. In the immediate term, we must push radical Islam far from our shores. In the longer term, we must reshape their thought, so that the very thought of taking up arms against the judeochristian world is foreign to them, for they will know they will be destroyed.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Strongly Disagree

I stand with Israel. The BDS is a thinly veiled attempt to ensnare the United States into supporting islam.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Agree

The porous southern border allows for human trafficking, drug trafficking, illegal immigration, and terrorist infiltration. A system combining a physical barrier enhanced with other detection systems will be more effective. Treating the border as a military frontier will add an additional layer. Best of all would be to create a buffer zone several miles inside Mexico. Whether the US purchases the land, Mexico cedes the land, or the USA takes control through other means is another matter.

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

First, only those seeking to enter the USA lawfully should be considered. Immigrants must pose no financial burden on the USA. They must bring no diseases. They must contribute to society - they must come with a purpose and particular, useful, skillset. They must not be here to radicalize or destroy our nation. Educational visas are an invitation to overstay. Birthright citizenship for travelers should be abolished. Citizenship is not something that should be given without purpose and committment.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

Our nation is established and functions best when guided by Judeo-Christian principles. The rights discussed in our founding nations are the rights of nature and of Nature's God

I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.

Strongly Disagree

Gender identity is a concept created to divide our Populus and create new rights out of whole cloth. This actually discriminates against those of us who do not engage in such manipulation and abuse.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

We have spent decades working to treat each race as equal. Now certain groups seek to divide us, allowing provocateurs to gain control and fracture our nation. It is just foolishness.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Christian, a man who seeks to serve the Father as well as my fellow man. I am saved through my acceptance of Christ as my savior.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

This invites fraud and abuse. Showing an identification card is such a simple thing - why object to protecting our election.

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

I believe penalties for election fraud should be substantial; a class E felony at minimum. Voter rolls must be audited each year to account for changes in the Populus. The federal government has no role in elections. As to the process, in general, I prefer in-person voting, using a government-issued identification to confirm a person is entitled to vote. I would require all citizens to reregister to vote each year, immediately after the regular election and runoffs are complete. Those who wish to vote absentee should be required to obtain their ballot in person and present a valid ID to do so. Ballot harvesting should be illegal; again, a felony. Drive-through voting should be banned. All registrations should close 60 days prior to elections so the rolls may be validated.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Those who seek to divide the people using Critical Race Theory are actually racist - and yes, that poses a threat to the United States.

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

If we make reparations based on race, how could we ever make such a determination? Does someone have to be 100% of a certain race? 90%? 50%? How do we decide a person's racial makeup? What about other ethnic groups who have suffered discrimination? Are they entitled to some sort of preparation? The list of considerations is endless; reparations are a fool's errand.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. Indeed, even without government overreach, we have improved our environment. Stricter laws will hurt the most vulnerable among us.

I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.

Strongly Agree

We have been blessed with plentiful resources. It is wasteful not to avail ourselves of them. Increasing the availability of these resources helps those in greatest need. More costly means of extraction penalize those who can afford it least. I also emphasize that we should not be reckless in the extraction. many who desire the United States to be at the mercy of foreign powers ignore the possibility that someone could support thoughtful, judicious fracking.

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

In brief, government exists to serve the people and protect their rights. It does not exist to grant rights - those are God-given. Government can and should do those things we cannot do ourselves, such as defend our people.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

I say I am conservative - some might say I am more conservative than I believe I am! Still, I believe my views represent the majority of Americans and Texans. Sadly, many are quiet and avoid engaging in politics. The time for silence is past. All Christians must engage.

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

I have been interviewed by several media outlets; I do not keep a record of them. I would refer you to my campaign manager, Stephanie Holderfield, at sh@drjonspiers.com for more information there. I do make my opinions known on social media and attend events supporting my views.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

Leaders must be prepared to make great personal sacrifices, to accept the hatred and vitriol levied by the left, to accept the criticisms of unpopular stances, to accept the dangers of the role, and must steel themselves to make hard decisions. Most of all, leaders must embody the servant-leadership ideal of our Judeo-Christian beliefs. Leaders lead, cowards cower, followers follow. Look for me at teh front as I make a Safer, Stronger texas.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Strongly Agree

We are asking our law enforcement officer to perform tasks that are incredibly difficult. Will they make mistakes? Certainly. They are human. But there are those who would seek to destroy them for the slightest mistake - or even a perceived slight. I stand with and for our law enforcement officers.

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Strongly Disagree

If a police force were to be overfunded, I would support diverting the funds. However, I have not personally encountered such an overfunded agency!

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Competent adults should have no restriction on gun ownership.

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.

Strongly Disagree

The weapon does not commit an act or crime. This blame-shifting is reckless and invites abuse.
