Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I strongly believe that human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death. Protecting the unborn will be a top priority for me as State Representative.
What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
Our country's founding documents lift up and empower us, as individuals, to make decisions for ourselves. In all its brilliance, America is a country governed by the people, for the people. Our founders understood that in order to have true liberty, to be able to practice our faith as we choose, that we must have limited government.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
We are privileged to live in a country where you are able to practice your faith freely. My spiritual beliefs were instilled in me at an early age. We are a Christian Family. For me, there is no compromise when it comes to my own priorities. My Faith comes first. My unique family story has provided me with an understanding that freedom isn’t free. The ability for my family to freely practice our Christian faith, or the ability for my son and daughter to become whoever they want to become would not be possible if it weren’t for the sacrifices made by those before me, including my parents. I am running as your next Republican State Representative because not only must we preserve our freedoms, but we must fight to expand it for future generations.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
I’m running for State Representative because it is time for our legislators to begin focusing on the issues that matter, including bringing real property tax relief to those who need it. As a public servant at the local level: - I have voted to cut taxes each and every year I have been in office. - I proposed an increase to the homestead exemption for the first time in 30 years, which decreased our local reliance on property taxes. - I authored an ethics policy to bring transparency and accountability to local officials. - I have been appointed to serve by Governor Greg Abbott to serve as a board member with the Auto Burglary Theft Prevention authority. - I have served the Republican Party as a precinct chair and state delegate. All taxpayers need an advocate in Austin - and as state representative, I will take action.
What is the best way to bring down unemployment?
In Texas, our most precious resource is our children, and our very best economic development tool is an educated workforce. That is why we must take every step possible to ensure that no matter the ZIP code--ALL children have the opportunity to receive a world-class education. We must make sure that local schools continue to have freedom to control curriculum. We must increase learning opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math for students to pursue high-wage, high-demand careers. We should let our students know how much they can expect to earn before they seek a college degree. We must empower parents to make the best choices for their children. And we must continue to measure how well our schools are performing.
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
We need to deregulate the healthcare marketplace and create a competitive system. We need a system that allows for consumers to choose the insurance or health savings opportunities that best works for their family's needs. We must completely repeal, and replace Obamacare at the federal level. And as state representatives, we need to create a policy framework that rejects nationalized healthcare and empowers individuals.
What role should government play in boosting the economy?
We need to cut taxes and cut onerous regulations at EVERY level. At the state level: Constituents should have a say on whether local governments can raise taxes. My opponent voted to make it easier for school districts to increase property tax rates without a vote from constituents. I disagree. We should implement stronger spending caps. While my opponent voted with every Democrat to kill Governor Greg Abbott's proposal to enact a stronger cap on government spending, I would have voted for it. Enacting the Governor’s plan would limit government’s growth at the rate of population plus inflation. This is a common sense, conservative initiative and should be supported. We should overhaul our dependency on property taxes and look into a consumption based funding system. Studies have shown this could create over 200,000 jobs and provide a $28 billion dollar boost to the Texas economy - all within the first 5 years.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I believe in representative government. I also believe that politicians are holding elected seats for too long, and that it makes them complacent on the issues that matter to people. Over the past 6 years, House District 98 has had a representative that has betrayed constituents voter after vote. For example, Rep. Capriglione voted to create a hidden fee on nursing home facilities. There are too many anti-taxpayer votes to list in one survey. I have served as a city councilman and I am running for State Representative because we need conservative solutions for the challenges we face.
