OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Strongly Agree

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Strongly Agree

It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has a livable income.

Strongly Disagree

It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has health insurance.

I voted in these primaries and general elections:

2010 General Election, 2010 Republican Primary, 2012 General Election, 2012 Republican Primary, 2014 General Election, 2014 Republican Primary, 2016 General Election, 2016 Republican Primary

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

At no point after a pregnancy is discovered. The only option I would possibly support as a compromise to achieve reform is a morning after pill for a rape victim. However, I believe the federal government has no role in this issue and it should be decided by the states as the constitution lays out.

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?

Continue efforts to undermine terror networks and destroy those who take up arms against us, but stay out of governmental affairs of other countries. Our meddling led to 9/11 and our current problems with Iran and elsewhere.

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

The genius of the Constitution is that it allows people to be self-interested and productive but protects citizens from when self-interested action trespasses on others. The separation of powers keeps power spread broadly to support this principle.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I was raised in a strong Christian home. My grandfather was a Methodist minister and I can remember in the blizzards in the late 1970s when we couldn't get to church we would listen to his tapes on an old recorder for our Sunday services. I have carried these values into adulthood.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

I have a book called "The Conservative Story" which is a collection of columns I wrote over the years for the local paper espousing conservative and libertarian ideals. It is available through Amazon.

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

I have a plan called the Fair Tax Plus available on my website. It involves implementing the Fair Tax, which is a national sales tax to replace income, payroll, corporate, and estate taxes, and using the prebate in that plan to allow all citizens to maintain their own HSA and purchase health insurance.

What role should government play in boosting the economy?

None

What changes should be made to the tax code?

The tax code should be replaced with the Fair Tax.

What is the best way to bring down unemployment?

Unemployment is no longer the issue, at least in Ohio. We have trouble attracting enough employees. Businesses here are working to find solutions and government's only role is to promote the best ideas that are discovered in the private sector and minimize regulations and minimum wage requirements.

How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?

Make it priority one in the budget. This is money involuntarily lent to the government by its citizens and is the first item that should be protected in budget reform.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

My time as county commissioner has allowed me to gain experience in weighing competing interests and in achieving political goals. This process is the same on the local level as on the national level. It would be natural to say that my fifteen years of practicing law provides valuable technical insight as well, and it does, but the five years that I worked in factories and on construction crews before going to law school is actually a much more valuable experience in knowing the day-to-day concerns of constituents.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I promise to cut government. That is the primary reason I am running for office. The path toward bankruptcy we are on is the biggest threat we have ever faced as a nation. Our Washington politicians have lulled us to sleep on this issue. There needs to be a renewed interest in the Constitution and fiscal responsibility.
