QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
Tax dollars should never go to any abortion related provider. Abortion is illegal in Texas, period. As I have my entire time in the legislature, I will use every tool at my disposal to protect unborn life, and recently joint-authored the law to ban taxpayer funded abortion travel to other states.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
Under no circumstances should elective abortions be allowed. The life of unborn children should be protected from conception.
Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.
Strongly Agree
The job of the attorney general is to defend our laws and Constitution, and to protect those that cannot protect themselves. The most vulnerable lives, those in the womb, must be protected with the same vigilance as every citizen. That's why I joint-authored and passed the heartbeat law, the law to ban out of state abortion pills, and the law banning abortion (and creating civil penalties).
The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.
Strongly Agree
Life begins at the moment of conception, and all life is sacred and should be protected.
The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.
Strongly Agree
During the 89th Legislature, I co-sponsored and passed the law (HB 7) to stop the deceptive trade practices of woke abortion medication companies shipping abortion pills into Texas. This law will also defeat the shield laws of blue states that attempted to protect abortion providers. The Comstock Act is a powerful tool to stop these obscene abortion pill products from being mailed here.
ECONOMY
What is your position on the minimum wage?
While well-intentioned, government mandated minimum wages hurt those they are intended to help, often resulting in fewer jobs available. These measures also place more financial burdens on small businesses who are often struggling to stay afloat.
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
I have worked in ranching, farming, oil, and gas my entire life. I grew up on the promise that if you worked hard, took care of your family, and held your values that you earned a piece of the American dream. Texas' free enterprise system is what is making her the economic hub of the country. Private property protections in the law is what has allowed my family to operate for seven generations in Texas. Both are essential to a healthy and thriving economy.
List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.
I will create an anti-corruption division within the office of the attorney general to seek out and hold those accountable committing the waste, fraud, and abuse. Additionally I will investigate NGO’s that are squandering or outright stealing our tax dollars to undermine our Republic and its values. Taxpayer funded lobbying is the USAID of Texas. This unethical practice of weaponizing tax dollars against taxpayers and conservative values must be ended.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
There is no such thing as separation of church and state, it’s nowhere in the Constitution. We are a nation and state built on "In God We Trust." The Preamble of the Texas Constitution states, "Humbly invoking the blessings of Almighty God...". This is why I authored the law to put prayer back in public schools and worked to restore the 10 Commandments back on the wall of every classroom.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
An individual/business's right to refuse business for any reason must be upheld, especially in cases of moral and religious beliefs.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
C)
The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.
Strongly Disagree
The openings for abuse and violations of privacy in a program of this nature would simply be too many for me to support.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
During the 89th Legislative Session, I passed SB 17 to stop China, and other enemy countries and entities from buying out land from underneath us. As attorney general, I will also use every tool to enforce this law and prevent China and enemy entities from buying property in Texas.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Israel is one of our strongest allies. We must back Israel up in the fight against terrorists and stand against all antisemitism. It’s why I fought to pass the law to strengthen the definition of antisemitism to help stop the disturbing trend we are seeing at college campuses and in high schools, and root out the evil that is antisemitism.
IMMIGRATION
I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.
Strongly Disagree
The ban on sanctuary cities law was a Texas Freedom Caucus priority. I will sue any woke, local official that gets in the way of President Trump's deportation agenda for civil penalties, criminal penalties and removal from office. There must be zero tolerance for those in the way of President Trump’s deportation agenda.
EDUCATION
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Agree
Parents must have the final say in their children's education, not the government. The Department of Education must be eliminated, this is a states rights and parental rights issue.
Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.
Strongly Agree
Education should be left to the states, with zero influence from foreign nations. Children need to be taught to love America not hate it.
VALUES
Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.
Strongly Agree
Parental rights are God granted, not government granted. In Texas, I joint authored and helped pass the largest school choice program in the nation, the parental bill of rights and the Constitutional Amendment that further protects parental rights including directing a child’s medical care.
Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.
Strongly Agree
Child gender modification is child abuse, period. It’s why I fought for the law to ban child transgender surgeries, the ban on sex change drugs for kids, and the ban on social transitioning of children in SB 12.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Agree
I support the expansion of gambling in my state.
Strongly Disagree
I have a consistent and clear record of holding unlawful gambling operations accountable, as well as those attempting to illegally expand gambling. In the Senate Sunset committee, I uncovered massive fraud, waste, and abuse within the Texas Lottery Commission. Our investigation led to the resignation of the Texas Lottery executive director, the abolishment of the Lottery Commission, and legislation to restore taxpayer confidence in our government institutions.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I'm a Christian first, and above all things saved by Grace through faith in our Lord. My wife, Macy, and I are blessed with four beautiful children. They are my daily reminder of what we are fighting for. One day I will be long gone, with my picture hanging on the wall in the basement of the Capitol, but I fight for our children and their children to leave it better than we found it. I reject the legislative healthcare, pension, and donate the salary to charities. I have no interest in taking anything from this job and have no interest in using it for a cushy D.C. job. I am only here to serve. The fight is here in Texas, and my goal as the next Attorney General is to make Texas the safest state in America to live and raise a family.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
One illegal vote cancels out your legal vote. I fought for and strengthened Voter ID laws to include absentee ballots so we ensure only legally qualified citizens are voting. I will create a stand alone task force division within the OAG with law enforcement powers to investigate and prosecute election related crimes to ensure Texas has the most secure elections.
EQUALITY
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
America was founded on the ideal of equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome. Reparations are a ridiculous, woke left false promise that is only brought up during the election cycle, and should never be considered as serious legislation.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
As a husband and dad, I want my wife and daughter to be safe when using facilities designed for women's privacy. I authored and passed the law kicking perverted men out of women’s private spaces. I also authored and passed the law to kick men out of girls' sports, protecting fairness for our daughters.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Strongly Disagree
The Green New Scam is a massive waste of taxpayer money to push a woke agenda that seeks to destroy the oil and natural gas industries. Texas oil and gas production is paramount to the survival of our economy and our nation, and spending billions to subsidize inefficient and deceitfully "green" energy sources is a waste of money.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Oil, gas, and nuclear resources will continue to meet the demand of increased electricity.Hydrocarbons and the energy density of nuclear will provide the affordable, reliable, dispatchable power that Texas needs to continue to lead this whole nation.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Since my first session, I have been ranked as the number 1 or number 2 most conservative legislator. I refuse to compromise on my core convictions, and have the strongest conservative record in this race to prove it. That’s why I was elected Chairman of the Texas House Freedom Caucus.
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No, I have not.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No, I have not.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?
The goal of the criminal justice system is to keep families and communities safe by protecting our God granted freedoms of life, liberty and property from those trying to take them from you. Tough on crime, law and order is America First. I fully support the death penalty as well. Our laws and Constitution are not suggestions.
Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.
Strongly Agree
As a dad to 4, I know how important it is to protect our children from harm, and it’s one of the most important roles of government. I have taken these evil predators on and joint authored the law creating criminal penalties for AI child porn. I also authored and passed the law making it easier to prosecute predators showing obscene material to children.
Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.
Strongly Agree
Sharia law is incompatible with our Christian nation's founding and laws. Sharia law is not only illegal, it’s organized crime and I’ll treat it as such. This past session, I worked to pass the bill to stop "no-go zones" in North Texas where they were attempting to create a Muslim only, Sharia law governed community.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
There should be no restrictions at all for law abiding citizens. Felons and illegal immigrants should continue to not be allowed to have guns. The right to bear arms shall not be infringed upon in the state of Texas, and I will continue to uphold and defend all of our 2nd amendment rights, including constitutional carry which I helped pass in the House as the Chairman of the Freedom caucus.
