Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Only one circumstance, (and it very seldom occurs) -when the actual physical life of the mother is in jeopardy and the unborn child is more likely to die than the mother during the procedure. Similarly, if the unborn child has a greater chance of survival and the Mother is likely to die the same standard applies. This is a hypothetical answer to a theoretical question, and a circumstance such as this is possible but not likely
What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
Greed, avarice, corruption and the quest for power is the reason the founders designed the system of government we enjoy. Separation of powers and the checks and balances implemented to insure none of the 3 branches should go unchecked and become dominant.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I find the older I become the more spiritual and God fearing I become. I become more focused on setting a Christian example for my family, especially my children and grand children. I pray, and I have a personal goal of insuring that I have as many, if not more "thank you Lord" prayers, as "Lord, if you'll just help me this one time I promise I'll be a better man and better Christian". I am a born again Christian raised in the Baptist church, and now attend Lutheran church (Missouri Synod-the more conservative one)
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
I was the author of the Texas concealed handgun law in 1995. That was when it was politically dangerous to support the right to carry, and many Republicans opposed it.
What is the best way to bring down unemployment?
A good business climate with low and fair taxation, limited regulation, and a focus on the free market system. This will create employment and opportunity.
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
Employer based health insurance is the best option. Greater employment and more heads of households employed and covered by insurance as well as their dependents is the answer. Obamacare is not the answer.
What role should government play in boosting the economy?
Creating a low tax, low regulation business environment will boost the economy. Insuring that government doesn't pick winners and losers among the various competing business communities is important too.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I held the office I now seek for 12 years. I left voluntarily to seek another office. During my tenure we set records for performance in all the functional areas of the General Land Office. We were the agency that the legislature and/or the Governor always depended on to take care of problems that were unusual or unique. For example, the Governor took the responsibility for Hurricane Ike and Dolly recovery from two other state agencies and gave it to the GLO. When the legislature decided to move oversite of the Alamo to the state, they gave it to the Alamo and not the Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept or the Texas Historical Commission. I've been there and done that, and with the help of many competent folks who worked for me, I've done it very well.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I have no interest in any other, or any higher office. I intend to do what needs to be done at the GLO, and retire once again. Maybe that takes one term, maybe it takes two.
