The U.S. military should wait for militant Islamic groups to directly threaten our national security on our shores, rather than eradicate them now wherever they may be worldwide.

No Answer

The United States must maintain a nuclear arsenal that is safe, reliable, modern and numerically superior to those of potential adversaries.

No Answer

I support legislation such as the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA) that would prohibit discrimination against individuals, organizations and small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

The federal government should establish Common Core as a nationwide academic standard for high school graduation.

Strongly Disagree

I oppose the resettlement of Syrian refugees into the U.S. without proper vetting.

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

The earlier on gets an abortion the better. The barriers imposed on women in many states merely cause a woman to delay the procedure. Ideally abortions would be obtained long before the 24 week legal limit. This limit should not apply if the mother's life is endangered. I would like to see every child a wanted and loved child. I would also like to see those opposed to abortion more involved in adoption, foster care, and advocating legislation that will enhance the lives of all children.

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

I would like to think that common sense was principally involved.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe that life is sacred and that as stewards of the environment, we have a responsibility to the planet and our children to ensure our behaviors and activities are sustainable. I do not believe in a god.

Considering all issues (social, economic, national security, etc.), which of these best describes you?

Very Liberal

Additional comment from candidate:

See our platform at www.jeffjohnsonri and see us on Facebook for a detailed look at our platform. I am troubled that this survey had no questions on the candidates' positions on climate change. This is a very important issue and a centerpiece of our campaign. I also believe there should be space available to clarify each position.
