What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
The Founders wrote the constitution because the myriad weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation impelled them to create a strong union of states under a central federal government. They were worried about things such as war debts, foreign policy, and the authority to raise an army when needed. They sought to balance the central authority of the federal government with respect for state sovereignty in many aspects of the Constitution but they made it clear that federal power was legitimate.
Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
My spiritual beliefs and values are neatly summarized in the Nicene Creed, which is too long to include here according to your survey's limits.

Please defend your answer to the previous question by referencing your publicly available track record.
I've never held office, so I do not have much of a "publicly available track record." As a constitutional historian I have written widely on civil rights and the history of government regulation of the private sector. My assumptions about the nature and limit of public authority are clearly expressed in my published work. There have been times when the government acted appropriately and other times when the government either failed to act when it should have or intruded too far into areas of private concern.

Additional comment from candidate:
I wish your survey questions allowed for more discussion and greater recognition of the complexity of the issues. From talking to voters I have gained great confidence in their ability to deal in the "grey areas" of difficult, nuanced problems and I believe in their willingness credit sincere commitment and recognize honest differences of opinion.
