RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
It should be allowed whenever the girl/woman and her doctor agree it is best for her continued health and/or well being.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Disagree
Abortion providers often give many health services and they should not be in jeopardy. It is between a girl/woman whether an abortion is necessary, and the ability to receive one must not be withheld to those with limited income. These health services must not be available only to the wealthy. Women do not get pregnant by themselves, yet are too often left to support themselves through pregnancy, childbirth, and a subsequent lifetime of parenting. Women deserve healthcare.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Agree
Absolute physical pain can be intolerable. We often hear it is cruel not to euthanize suffering pets. Yet we do not have that compassion for our people. Wealthy individuals currently have access to assisted suicide. Those with limited income do not. I recognize that assisted suicide may open up gray areas when we can be unsure if the suffering person wished for suicide, or if someone around them wished for their death for their own economic or personal interests. Guidelines are needed.
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
Indiana needs a tax code with lower income earners paying a lower rate than upper income earners. The current flat rate for all does not recognize differences in sacrifices made by taxpayers of different economic levels.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
With the majority of our budget spend on education, we need to re-evaluate the "follow the student" philosophy of our K-12 education dollars. Our hard earned tax $$ must only go to schools accepting all students. It is important for us to have a well-educated electorate. We cannot return to the days when disabled student age persons could only sit outside their homes and watch the school bus drive by as they were not accepted in schools. Currently many schools which are using our tax dollars, may accept one or more students from a family, only to reject admission when another child doesn't meet their standards. Public schools accept all. They should be fully funded. People can continue to attend any school of their choice, but we must not be required to fund them if they do not accept all students. Continual lawsuits with the intentions of further reducing the rights of women must be curtailed. If we really want to represent our people, then we need to put women's rights on the ballot as a referendum. Money saved, people respected, good workers no longer consider leaving our state. If we want to attract good businesses to Indiana, we must also stop trying to limit rights of the LGBTQ community. These bigoted fights are costly in so many ways. We must support renewable energy now. Indiana will continue to pay out more and more in emergency damages if we do not address Climate Change now. We must restore solar/renewable incentives the State Government gutted. There needs to be up front full disclosure of funding lawmakers receive from the fossil fuel industry to increase understanding of why Indiana refuses to support renewable energy. Raising the ridiculously low $7.25 minimum wage would help prevent workers from qualifying for so much financial assistance. It is the job of the employer to support their employees, not the job of the taxpayer to subsidize greedy employers. Our workforce deserves to earn a living while they work. If we property regulated the overabundance of "nutrients" running into Indiana waters, we would save money on clean up efforts, and gain money from in and out of state tourism. No one wants to recreate in waters with blue green algae or slime covered rocks and streambeds. Indiana was once a sparkling jewel, and should be again. Benefits become exponential. If we upgrade our states water, sewer, and rainwater runoff, we will save exponentially from avoiding infrastructure catastrophes that are becoming more common around the country with Climate Change. We would also be protecting the health of Hoosiers which is a priceless savings. Properly funding our State and County Soil and Water Conservation Districts is like money in the bank. For the health and prosperity of our state we must work to protect our soil and waters. Now more than ever.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Agree
We used to have State Schools, as Purdue and IU, with affordable college. Our state invested to make it so. Then they became State Supported with less state investment. Now, students are paying college costs that too often cannot be repaid from jobs available even with their degrees. I do not agree we must fund all colleges. If you choose an elite expensive school, that's up to you. But State Schools, and local extensions or trade schools, yes. We need opportunity for the future.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Agree
If you are open for public business, then you need to serve those who walk in your door, or visit your website. If you do not wish to dispense birth control pills, you should not work in a pharmacy. If you are a religious bookstore, you should not have to sell books of other religions. But you do need to have your door open to all who wish to enter and browse or buy your books. Religious liberty doesn't mean you have to change your beliefs, it means you cannot force others to change theirs.
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
There is a separation of church and state guaranteed in the 1st Amendment. One would think therefore, that government cannot close churches. It is true we cannot close religious thought. However, churches also carry a tax free status because they are supposedly not involved in government policy due to the separation of church and state. If however, the church blatantly advocates for political parties, especially violent politics that will do physical or bodily harm, then the church has crossed the threshold of separation of church and state and has opened itself for removal of tax exemption, and possibly further action. When a church knowingly assaults people, as happened recently in Warsaw, they are open to outside investigation and possible prosecution. If the church admits wrong and is willing to prosecute their own individuals, proving it is not a church policy of assault, but an individual assaulting unbeknownst to the congregation, then the question is open for examination and perhaps the church can continue. For a church to be closed by the government there must be evidence, investigation, and judgement brought that proves illegal activity. No one is above the law.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
Between A and B. Everyone needs healthcare. By having everyone covered, it becomes more affordable and we are all healthier. This means it must be affordable for everyone. We will need a transition time for those who really like their private healthcare options. As long as some are not insured, there will be people in crisis situations with no insurance that endangers their lives and livelihoods, and requires others to fund their expenses. Single payer is the most easily used healthcare system. You no longer need people employed just to sort through the myriad of policies and payments available for the exact same procedure. Costs are reduced which help pay the subsidies which make the plans affordable. These plans work well in other developed countries. Taxes pay for the subsidies, yes, but the savings from cheaper premiums when from the larger pool of those insured is greater. Preventative health would be affordable and save much money and many lives. Affordable insulin would save lives, improve health, and help with family economics. Further prevention by nutrition education and availability would prevent much diabetes before it happens. Insulin price caps are necessary. After all the inventor of insulin gave the patent to the people to keep it affordable. Pharmaceutical companies must not be allowed to make exorbitant profits on life saving insulin. Diabetics were a very large percentage of Covid deaths in America. We cannot ignore the health crisis in our country. Indiana is not one of the healthier states. We need better nutrition, more exercise, and affordable healthcare. For easier exercise, we need a healthy environment that draws us out to enjoy the outdoors - instead of blue green algae waters and slimed shorelines. It is atrocious that we are the only developed nation where people can lose everything if they become ill or injured.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
We have required vaccinations for school admissions for decades. There are risks with vaccinations. Having read my family history though, in a letter describing my great grandmother's brother's death from a now preventable disease, I realize the risks of illness are also real, and riskier than vaccinations. With vaccinations we have practically eliminated many once life threatening diseases. If people do not want vaccinations, they do not have to attend school, or work. They can choose to home school or start their own business. They can finance their own risky behavior, but are free to do so. If they choose to attend public gatherings while un-vaccinated during an outbreak, they are endangering the lives of those around them. In those cases vaccinations should be required. If you do not wish to be vaccinated, you can stay home. Exceptions can be made for those immune compromised or undergoing cancer treatments. In those cases, they should wear masks, and I would think they would not want to be among crowds that may not be vaccinated. It is not responsible for people to go unvaccinated, then expect others to risk their lives caring for them. Your freedom stops when you are endangering others. Because so many were allowed to go unvaccinated for Covid, we now have an endemic disease that makes our people's health much more vulnerable.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
Over the years people that join in terrorist groups seem to be disillusioned with their opportunities and their future. The wealth income disparity in our country that continues to give larger and larger proportions of our wealth to the top 5%, causes more to struggle just to have a decent living. Rebelling can be set off by various triggers. The best prevention is to have livable wages. Make the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes. Address Climate Change so young people are not so hopeless. Reduce college debt to enable young people to afford marriage, home, and children. Make healthcare a Right to Life. Realize women's rights are human rights. For our people to be productive peaceable members of our society they must have hope.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Strongly Agree
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Disagree
The only way to stop increasing immigration is to address why it is occurring. There will also be massive Climate Migration within our country if we do not immediately address Climate Change. People want to stay in there homes, where they have family and deep roots. They only leave is they have lost hope of survival where they live. Climate migration will only increase as the floods, storms, winds, and fires increase. It will be exponential if we do not act NOW.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
People whose lives are in danger from assaults, threatened assaults, or attacks on their immediate family and friends. Also, we have a long history of allowing people wanting to work in our country to enter and do so. Once here, they need a path to citizenship, just like many of our ancestors found. America is short of help, especially as our population ages. We need people willing to work. That door must remain open. Screening should keep out criminals, but those are a minority.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Strongly Disagree
Tax $$ must go only to schools accepting All students. All schools are welcome. We just must not require our taxpayers to pay for schools that turn away our children. Grading schools on standardized tests is comparing apples to oranges when public schools accept all, and other schools do not. We need quality education covering civics, government, social studies, language, the arts as well as science and math. Well rounded creative people will solve ever increasing problems of our world.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Neutral
Strong morals are important for a strong society. However, our Constitution established separation of church and state, just because our founders did not all profess the same religion. We are in the same situation today, with many religious belief systems giving guidance to their believers. We formed this country after the Revolutionary War to allow people to choose their own religion, not be dictated to as they were prior to the Revolution, when the King of England had a state church.
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Agree
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition
Strongly Disagree
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Agree
I do not agree with the above choices as there is misunderstanding of critical thinking. Critical thinking involves the analysis of a subject in question. Discussing all aspects of the issue so we can grow and learn. At the very least, we must acknowledge that we are a country of immigrants, a few of which may have been welcomed by indigenous peoples, but most, not. Then we brought in slave workers. Not all of our ancestors participated, but we must study & learn to not repeat mistakes.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I was raised in church and pondered other religions as well. In college I studied philosophy and religion. As a 4-H camp counselor we taught of the indigenous gathering on the Wabash river in Tecumseh's time as we were near Prophet's town and Prophet's rock. My roomate's boyfriend was from Kuwait and we discussed the Palestinian/Israeli conflict after I told him what I'd learned from the Israelis. The world was opening. Losing several of my friends to accidents by the time I was 30 also affected my spirituality. Always living in the country, except for my college years, the land, the waters, the trees, the stars beckoned me and as my dad used to say, he felt like he was in church when he planted the fields. I feel a stewardship for our farm and the waters that pass through. Volunteering in many groups,I found myself learning much of others and their many struggles. Helping others has always been one of the more rewarding things I can do. It helps my personal troubles seem smaller, and it is a joy to sense their successes. Giving birth to my children was an amazing experience. To see life begin, as well as see life end gives perspective. I know this is the touching world and that the 'afterlife' is more purely spiritual. Having severe life/death experiences has helped me see that we can walk in both worlds. One time in the hospital, the doctor just watched me for a while, then stated, "I cannot believe you are alive." It was that gaze we give newborns that asks, "Where were you and what was it like?" It has helped me see how short life is, and that we need to do all we can to make this special planet a beautiful place for the next seven generations. There is no other place like it. It is time. It will take all hands on deck to save it, but save it we must for the little ones yet to come.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Agree
We didn't have photo identification for most of my life with no problems. The only problems I encounter is when election officials try to keep me from voting because I am a Democrat. I always have my voter registration card as a back up though, and have NEVER missed a vote, so have been successful at voting each election.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
I would demand updated voting machines. No outdated machines should ever be used. Our vote is too important. I would require all voting machines to print out 2 papers showing all your votes. One would go into the ballot box to be counted by machine, but available for recount if needed. The other would go with the voter to take with them. They could check to make sure their votes were tallied properly. There would have to be the same number of voting places per population in all areas of the state, both rural and urban. No one should have to stand in long lines to vote. We need to have a holiday on election day to ensure everyone can vote. We need to make absentee ballots available to all so even people working 12 hour shifts can vote. No woman should have to have more documentation required to be a voter than a man. Men do not have to show marriage and divorce documentation, so neither should women. If your name hasn't changed in 40 or 60 years, there is no need to go back to see when it did. Sexism.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
We have people that know they are at risk at being killed by police just because they are black. That is reason for extreme unrest. We must have justice or we cannot have peace.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Neutral
Rich people had a head start, and most were not people of color. Now we have billionaires having a head start because they do not pay their fair share of taxes, and probably won't get shot by police because a tail light was out. How do we find justice? What makes up for wrongs? Continuing injustice is certainly not the answer.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
B. It will cost way less to be environmentally correct than to pay to fix the problems caused by damaging our environment.
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Strongly Disagree
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
To ensure justice, equal opportunity, fair enumeration (census) and fair drawing of political boundaries. fair elections with equal opportunities for all candidates apart from those corporations purchasing elections. To keep post offices, schools, roads, fair police, local fire protection. To give all equal rights, voice, and liberty. To provide defense and promote general welfare. To uphold the Constitution of the United States.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Liberal
I am a strong believer in equal rights an opportunity for all. I am very fiscally conservative.
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
I've farmed for 44 years with my husband, Stan in Kosciusko county. I'm a 7th generation IN farmer. Having earned my B.A. in Visual Arts & Art Ed from Purdue, W. Lafayette, I've enjoyed many years counseling new moms, then working with children in Public schools, Sunday School, 4-H & FFA. Climate Change is the biggest threat to life on our planet. Switching to green energy is pro-life & costs less than escalating damages from Climate Change. We must Demand Renewable Energy Now! We need Cover crops in our fields to sequester carbon and to keep fertilizer runoff out of our waters. The Next 7 Generations Depend on US For Clean Water, Clean Air, Healthy soils, and a Livable Climate. We've been given a gift ". . . to dress it and to keep it." - Genesis 2:15. Farming together for 44 years we experienced Alarming Changes. Let's save our planet, our home. We must raise the minimum wage to a Livable Wage, for a State that Works FOR A LIVING. Male dominated government regulation has no place criminalizing and endangering exclusively women's bodies. Indiana's maternal mortality is 3rd highest in the U.S. The U.S. maternal mortality is the highest among the developed nations. Let's work on that to be pro-life. Criminalizing miscarriage is a miscarriage of Justice. Healthcare is a Right to Life. Our Tax $$ must go only to schools accepting All students. One of my family lines came to Martha's Vineyard 150 years before the American Revolution. Several of my family lines fought for our country's independence from the King of England. You had to choose sides. My family chose democracy and a representative government, and I still do. I understand the importance of our Constitution and Bill of Rights. I've taken that oaths many times, for various jobs. It is something of which I am very proud, and would do my best to represent the people.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Disagree
No one is above the law. People would respect them more if they were assured of that.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Disagree
I do agree that we should spend more on mental health and community programs, then less on jails and prisons. Addition is more of a disease and symptom of other problems than a crime.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
We must ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines. We must have a background check on all weapon sales. We must reinstate the permit to carry. That will help police when making arrests. There is no need for assault weapons and high capacity magazines, except to kill large numbers of people in a very short time. They are not legal to use to hunt deer or other animals. People can still have their right to carry guns, without having weapons built for mass killings. That is not in the 2nd Amendment.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Agree
