What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
America's founders defined, separated and limited powers in an attempt to produce a document that a wide variety of states and citizens would adopt. The founders themselves had conflicting ideas. Where some were in favor of a strong central government and even wanted to refer to George Washington as "king" others wanted a much more limited federal government.

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Abortions should be allowed to preserve the life of the mother at her discretion.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Catholic Christian. I believe that we should love God above all and our neighbor as ourself. I further believe that on a national level we should strive to: feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, care for the ill and be compassionate to the imprisoned.
Considering all issues (social, economic, national security, etc.), which of these best describes you?
Somewhat Liberal
Please defend your answer to the previous question by referencing your publicly available track record.
Being very liberal or very conservative leads to polarization. I think we are better governed by non-extremists.

Additional comment from candidate:
The answers to the 24 questions above don't tell the whole story. The survey can create incorrect impressions. Take question 15 for instance. I believe the 10 Commandments should be allowed to be posted in public schools. They encourage good behavior and a dedication to a higher power. I am a firm follower in the Judeo Christian tradition. But we must be open minded. There are other paths. I think their advice to love God above all things and one's neighbor as oneself should also be allowed to be posted. There needs to be an even handedness; we may decide that these lessons are better taught at home. When my wife and I had young children I wanted my wife, pastor, church, friends and me to teach them how to pursue life in compliance with God's Commandments. Posting the 10 Commandments and other religions' mandates for peaceful living should be allowed but I don't want others interpreting them for my family.
