Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I was raised Catholic and became Presbyterian. I believe in God and Creation; after all, I am a committed advocate of the national parks. That said, I believe that God works in a myriad of ways to advance and shape the universe. Just because a day on Earth is 24 hours long does not mean that God's day cannot be billions of years long. I believe in the Ten Commandments as strongly as I believe in the Bill of Rights. Throughout history, humans have always needed direction and guidance. I have no problem admitting what has guided them best.

Please note the title and opening paragraphs of the attached news release, dated June 3, 2016: SPI CANDIDATE DR. AL RUNTE WOULD REPEAL NEW SEX EDUCATION “HEALTH” STANDARDS FOR WASHINGTON KINDERGARTEN CLASSROOMS. As the new state Superintendent of Public Instruction, I would bring common sense back to the classroom. On my first day as state Superintendent, I would take immediate action to repeal the new state standards that require sex and gender education to be taught to kindergarten students who are on average 5 to 6 years old. Classroom teaching at this level should be all about helping children begin to learn the basics of reading, writing and mathematics. Adult social concepts should not be forced on kids when they are first beginning their schooling. Social concepts of adults such as gender identity have no place in kindergarten classrooms in Washington State.

Considering all issues (social, economic, national security, etc.), which of these best describes you?
