What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
Our bad experience with British oppression. To escape established religions which persecuted unorthodox religions. Please see my book at www.whattoserveagoddess.com. "Do unto others" applies to individuals, businesses, and government. It is the duty of government in a capitalist economy to insure that capitalism works for all, which includes at minimum food, shelter, and health care. That is probably what Jesus would say if he were here now. Tough love is a form of hate.
Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.
Natural law, common law, courts ethical standards, science, great prophets, holy books, an honest conscience. See my book at www.whattoserveagoddess.com for discussion of such issues.
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I switched from seminary to law because Jesus said “do unto others” and nothing about believing an exact theology. Some behaviors which are unethical but we should not pass laws against them – because such laws cannot be enforced and because there is disagreement about when said behaviors are unethical. Adultery is a good example, sometimes unethical, sometimes justifiable. Each case is unique. The woman is the best judge, not the courts. Sex is not sport, is best in a committed relationship. It may create new life. Abortion should be avoided if possible. Abortion should always be allowed in the case of the health of the mother, including her mental health, and when rape or incest are involved. Contraceptives and reproductive education should be available because at a young age reproduction is a powerful instinct and some will not refrain or wait. P.S. Abortion is a wedge issue, a way of manipulating poor people to vote for Republicans who will screw them.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am inspired and motivated by the teachings of Jesus, that we should do unsolicited good deeds and returning good for evil if doing so will stop the cycle of violence. Jesus was among the greatest of prophets, but he was not a god co-equal with the father. He would be offended by our worship of him. Jesus wanted us to follow him, not to worship him. Fundamentalism is a serious error because it elevates the Bible to status co-equal with God. The Bible is worthy of study but is not the final word on right and wrong. We have a learned a lot in the 2000 years since it was written. Truth is to be found in many places, including science, law, medicine. Jesus himself was not a fundamentalism. For example, he challenged strict interpretations of the Old Testament. Fundamentalists sometimes take a fundamentalist approach to the Constitution, a serious error. The Constitution is not inspired. Natural law is superior to the Constitution. We have rights not mentioned in the Constitution.
Considering all issues (social, economic, national security, etc.), which of these best describes you?
Liberal
Please defend your answer to the previous question by referencing your publicly available track record.
Amend the Washington Constitution: Prohibit any income tax on the bottom 90%. Require an income tax on the top 10%. Fully fund education. Establish single payer health care, eliminating deductibles, as Colorado is doing. Phase in a $15 minimum wage. Capitalism must work for all. Eliminate traffic congestion: Take half the solo drivers off the roads, cut greenhouse gasses, with a statewide, UberX cell driven, ride sharing and door to door van service. Vans would carry you to and from home, transit centers, work, ferries, car rental, school, shopping, and soccer practice, connecting our disconnected, wasteful, transit system, making transit faster than driving. Price vans by the mile to break even. Vans will fill up, especially at night, will be more secure, will feed passengers to buses and trains, increasing ridership and revenues, freeing up money to complete light rail. A six passenger van equal five cars off the roads. Sell one car and save $724 per month.

Additional comment from candidate:
Neither Bible nor Constitutions is a complete or perfect statement of religious or legal authority. We must look everywhere for both moral and legal truth, study what wise people say, study law and science. Science is part of revelation. Fundamentalists have allowed themselves to be seduced by the least Christian of the political parties, the Republican Party, which does not "do unto others", but believes that people should be desperately poor so that they will lose hope and not have time to vote. Republicans trick religious people with their wedge issues, abortion and gay rights, to get them to vote against their own economic and environmental interest. Republicans are worshipers of the false god dollar. They are willing to wreck the environment God gave us to maximize profits. Often Democrats are not much better and have sold out to Big Money. Our agencies have been taken over by the companies they regulate. So we must be critical of both major parties.
