OTHER INFORMATION
QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Only in the instance if the life of the mother is truly in jeopardy.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
In a time like this - everything is on the table for discussion.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Strongly Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
According to Thomas Jefferson, it meant that the state would stay out of the church's business. Not that religion would never have a place in government. We would do well to maintain that position as a country.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
Congressman Chip Roy had a great healthcare bill that would inject competition into the marketplace and provide more coverage for those who need it. That is a model that we should be pursuing.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
As someone once said, we should make it 100 times easier for folks to immigrate to this country legally and 100 times harder to come illegally. We often give an incentive to folks to come here illegally by making the legal route convoluted, complex, and costly. We need to make it easier. Having said that, we must secure our border. In not doing so, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and those who seek to do us violence come into the country uninhibited. As a legislator, I have been proud to vote for $800M for border security for the last several sessions. It is Texas' responsibility to secure its border.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
Promotion of the LGBT agenda in public schools, including teaching of “sexual orientation” and “gender identity”, is completely inappropriate and should be opposed at the state and local level.
Strongly Agree
I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a pastor's kid who was brought up in the church. I believe John 14:6 where Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man comes to the Father but by Me." I have accepted Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior and do my best to live by the precepts and principles embedded in the Holy Scriptures.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
As a legislator for four terms, I believe my voting record speaks to that designation. I have received multiple awards and have been recognized by many of the leading conservative groups in the state.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
Having served four terms in the Texas House, and seeking a fifth-term, I believe my experience and record qualify me for the position.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
It's been an absolute honor to serve the good folks of HD 93 in the Texas House since 2013. I would be greatly humbled to get another term and continue the work we've done to promote and fight for conservative values such as limited government, fiscal responsibility, pro-life and pro-family positions, and good government policies in general. Thanks for your consideration and I hope to earn your support!
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Every time a restriction on gun ownership is offered, we must ask ourselves if the policy being proposed would actually curb the ill that is the focus of the proposed law. Often times, after tragedy, legislation is proposed that might make a lawmaker feel good for having proposed it, but will in no way remedy gun violence. The 2nd Amendment guarantees American citizens the right to keep and bear arms - that is an inalienable right.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Strongly Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1. Fiscal restraint - a law that puts tighter restraints on the legislature in regards to the budget. Limiting spending to population + growth is prudent. 2. Pandemic issues - COVID has shown a deficiency in our laws in terms of the balance of powers and separation of powers in times of emergency and crisis. 3. Criminal Justice Reform - I've been honored to help start the CJR Caucus in the Texas House and look forward to promoting policies that support law enforcement while also making sure our corrections system is just to those who enter it. (and making sure that those that do not need to enter the system are not forced into it.)
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism is absolutely a threat to domestic security. We should call it out and condemn it wherever we see it. But we do a grave injustice and make a mistake to say our country was founded on racism and that we should not venerate our founding. Our founding fathers, while imperfect, formed the most incredible government known to mankind. We should be grateful for that heritage.
