Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Abortion should only be allowed in cases when it is necessary to save the life of the mother.

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?

To eliminate radical Islamic terrorism, we need to continue down the current path. The tactics in place today are working far better than anything the previous administration did. We need a comprehensive approach to defeating terror. We need to target ISIS' and AQ's financing, recruitment, ideology, and its leadership.

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. The Founding Fathers knew this, and sought to limit the amount of power any one person or branch of government could attain. This helps ensure the United States remains a nation of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Christian, and I find comfort in sharing faith and fellowship at church every week. I try to start off each day with an Old Testament and a New Testament chapter and prayer. I am also a staunch defender of religious liberty for people of all faiths, and I will always work to defend religious-based schools and organizations from those who want to erode their rights.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

My voting record is available for all to see on the congress.gov website. I have sponsored, co-sponsored, or voted for legislation to protect the unborn, balance the budget, strengthen national security, fix healthcare, increase government transparency, cut red tape, and more. I encourage everyone to look for themselves at the hundreds of bills I've participated in. A condensed list can also be found on my campaign website, donjbacon.com.

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

Healthcare is broken in America, and fixing it will unfortunately take awhile. I support association pools and HSA expansion. We also need to change the pool structure, allow individuals to purchase insurance across state lines, increase transparency with pricing, reduce fraud and abuse, and begin returning control back to a competitive private sector. I support eliminating the Health Insurance Tax (HIT) that raises costs for everyone, and repealing the tax on "Cadillac" plans, such as the health insurance unions have negotiated for.

What role should government play in boosting the economy?

The government can boost the economy by doing two things: Ensuring free and fair trade between nations, and staying out of the way of a competitive free market. Overregulation is absolutely detrimental to the economy, and I've been working hard to fix this at every opportunity. We need to ensure our business taxes remain competitive in the world, and we also need to ensure bureaucrats don't write new laws in the form of regulations without Congress' consent.

What changes should be made to the tax code?

We just passed the biggest tax cut in decades, lowering the tax burden for more than 90% of Nebraska's families. We also lowered our business taxes that will enable American companies to compete in the global economy and that will incentivize investments back in America. Now, we need to make the individual tax cuts permanent, and seek a decrease in the Capital Gains tax.

What is the best way to bring down unemployment?

Improving the economy is the best way to bring down unemployment. A better economy means more jobs, more training, and higher demand for labor. Our unemployment rate is now the lowest it's been in 4 decades. Further, we need to encourage more technical training in high schools, and do workforce reforms to remove the ‘cliff-effect” to incentivize individuals on welfare to get back into the fulltime workforce.

How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?

To guarantee Social Security for future generations, we need to take several steps. We may need to raise the retirement age for younger people who are currently not close to retirement. A better economy with more people in the workforce paying into the fund will also be a big help.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I served in the United States Air Force for almost 30 years, retiring as a Brigadier General. During that time, I gained experience not shared by many others in Congress, for example: I was the commander at Offutt AFB, one of the largest employers in all of Nebraska. I also did missile defense in Israel and deployed four times to the Middle East, giving me real world experiences that make me better and more effective in Congress. A more robust list of my experience and education is available on my website, donjbacon.com.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I was the only Republican to beat an incumbent House Democrat in the entire country in 2016, and I believe that happened because Nebraska voters want a principled leader with conservative ideals. As a freshman, I’m proud to have passed legislation that protect our Gold Star spouses, replaced old aircraft at Offutt AFB, improved Post-Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain Injury care, expanded transition assistance to veterans, forced the military to ween its bases in Europe off Russian gas, and improved our electronic warfare capabilities. This election is about you - your family, your job, and your future. I work hard every single day to defend your liberty, strengthen your security, and remove the roadblocks to your prosperity. I'm grateful for your support.
