18. Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe that our country is based upon Judeo-Christian values. That is why I passed legislation to place "In God we Trust" permanently in the Senate chamber and the words "under God" in the Texas pledge. I believe in Jesus Christ and I wrote a best-selling book titled "The Second Most Important Book You Will Ever Read" challenging people to read the Bible daily. I believe in the sanctity of life beginning with conception. That is why I fought to pass the Sonogram bill for six years until it finally passed in 2011 (SB 16, HB 15, 82R). I believe we are a nation of laws that must be enforced and that is why I have pushed legislation to secure our border (Twenty-two bills authored or sponsored). I have fought for religious liberties (SJR 49, 82R), extending the divorce waiting period (SB 583, 80R), and strengthening our spending limit by tying it to population plus inflation (SB 1350, 80R; SB 928, 81R; SB 828, 82R; SB 101, 83R). These efforts have languished under current leadership.
