QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Agree

I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.

Agree

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

None.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Neutral

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.

Yes

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

Government should neither favor or discriminate against one religion or another. Government should not support the creation of a state-sanctioned religion, however, government should not be hostile toward any religion nor bar the practice of a religion unless that religion or its adherents threaten the peace and advocate the overthrow of the United States of America.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Strongly Agree

HEALTHCARE

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.

Disagree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

I believe that the free market system will provide healthcare protections for the vast majority of people in this nation, and that such programs as Medicare for seniors and Medicaid for developmentally disabled and those in extreme poverty, can be used to supplement private insurance programs.

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Disagree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

Each government program and spending measure should be scrutinized as to its benefit, whether the cost outweighs the benefits and whether another measure can more effectively accomplish the objective. I believe more government departments should operate on a zero-based budget approach--make them justify all of their spending year to year, not just how much more they want in the next budget year. If Departments had to review each area of expenditures year-to-year, there would be cost savings.

IMMIGRATION

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Strongly Agree

State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.

Agree

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

I believe that any individual of good moral character, who has demonstrated their law-abiding nature, should apply for citizenship in the United States, demonstrate their ability to come to this nation, lawfully seek employment, pursue an education or vocational training, or support themselves and any dependents through their labors.

EDUCATION

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Disagree

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.

Agree

2ND AMENDMENT

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

Yes

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

People who have demonstrated a disregard for the law (i.e. felons) and people of unsound mind, should be screened for gun ownership. I believe current licensure procedures are adequate.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Strongly Disagree

The Electoral College should be abolished.

Strongly Disagree

In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?

Continue my ongoing efforts to insure and provide clean water, maintain both water and wastewater infrastructure, as well as streets, roads and highway infrastructure, bridges and drainage. Protect and maintain our environment and natural resources, agricultural base which is 65% of Indiana's economy. Support efforts to extend high speed internet and broadband to the rural areas of Indiana to assist education, business, agriculture and government in their daily operations.

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Any attempts to pit one segment of the American population against another is a threat to domestic security, and current trends toward divisiveness weaken America's ability to withstand attacks from abroad. Efforts by groups within this nation who would attack our institutions, such as our schools, our churches, our patriotic organizations, serve only to splinter us as a nation. While many in the minority communities express that they are better off now than they have ever been, there are those individuals who demand more. Whether the argument is based upon poverty, lack of opportunity or other factors, some seek to portray it as racial which automatically divides Americans.

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.

Strongly Disagree

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

Records of the Indiana State Senate from 2011 through 2020.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

Recipient of a public school education in LaGrange County, Indiana, I attended Indiana University, majoring in political science, but enjoyed a broad spectrum of courses in American History, Public and Environmental Affairs, literature, psychology and business. Upon graduation from college, I worked full-time in the office of Indiana Governor Otis R. Bowen, and later as a law clerk for the Indiana Court of Appeals, attending law school at night. Since 1979, I have owned and operated a private law practice, serving first as a deputy prosecutor and later as one of the first female Prosecuting Attorneys in the State of Indiana; thereafter, I continued in the private practice of law, operating a small business for over forty years in the Town of LaGrange. I have been active in the community as attorney for various groups such as the LaGrange County Library Board, LaGrange County Park Board, the Towns of Topeka and Shipshewana.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I believe that government should reflect the will of the people, that local issues should be decided by local officials, that the state government should identify those issues which are best addressed uniformly across the whole state. Often, I think we take away the rights of the individuals in an effort to address policy issues "as one size fits all, " instead of allowing local units to meet the unique needs of their constituents.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Agree

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Agree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty; his son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and the forgiveness of sins and the redemption of each and every person.
