What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
The law of Nature and Nature's God is what the founders invoked when writing the Declaration of Independence. They believed that man was created a free being by God and should not be subjected to the will of kings or tyrrants. In defense of the separation of powers, Federalist 51 looks to the ambition of men as a bulwark against overreach by any branch of our government.
Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.
1. God 2. Constitution 3. Voters (citizens) 4. Congress - Executive - Courts (co-equal)
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Only when the life of the child CANNOT be preserved (i.e. ectopic pregnancy) and the life of the mother can be.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a follower of Jesus Christ and rely wholly, by faith, on His death, burial and resurrection as my way to God. I am a teaching elder in the Reformed Church in America (RCA). I believe that God is sovereign over all and directs human leaders (Proverbs 21:1) as He pleases. I believe that morality should be taught and exemplified by civic leaders, but cannot be effectively legislated. Much of the founding of the Progressive movement in our country was cloaked in moralism. We should have the freedom to live and worship as we see fit as long as the physical or property rights of others are not infringed in the process. No pastor should fear government retribution for preaching the Gospel and must be protected from such by the full force of law. PS - My parents are retired Christian missionaries and I spent 8 years of my youth in Papua New Guinea.
Considering all issues (social, economic, national security, etc.), which of these best describes you?
Conservative
Please defend your answer to the previous question by referencing your publicly available track record.
While I am somewhat libertarian (small "L") on issues of personal choice, I feel the rights of others must be protected from tyranny. My personal choices are conservative. This is my first run at public office so I have no public voting record.

Additional comment from candidate:
Q9 - I am for government accountability in spending (balancing budgets). How that looks in the end requires some thought. As a rule, I believe there is much waste that could be cut. Q12 - We don't have a pure democracy. Pure democracy would mean that laws are passed directly by citizens. We have a democratic republic, which is why I disagreed with this answer. Q21 - I am against the government sanctioning of marriage. While government can recognize domestic contracts, I believe that only God can underwrite marriage and, as such, marriages should be solemnized before God by ministers and not the state.
