Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I believe every life lost to abortion — 55,000 children per year — is a tragedy. Abortion should not be legal at any stage.
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?
Having a robust military is vitally important for the well-being of our nation. Ronald Reagan said it best: “Peace through strength.” We must secure our borders, support our brave Armed Forces both at home and abroad, and maintain a strong national defense in order to secure our country’s future.
What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
Since Adam and Eve took a bite of the apple, our nature as humans has been to seek power and serve ourselves rather than others. That’s why the Founders’ vision for a limited government with checks, balances, and specific enumerated powers is so critical. And it’s why we need strong conservative leaders to fend off attacks on our Constitution.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
Jesus Christ is my lord and savior; I believe that he died for our sins so that we may have eternal life through him. As parents, one of our proudest moments has been witnessing our teenage boys give their lives to Christ. Just earlier this year our youngest son was baptized. My family and I continue to follow and study Christ as we yearn to grow in his likeness.

I have served in the Texas House of Representatives since 2011 fighting for conservative, limited-government, pro-freedom, pro-family values. I have been named a "Courageous Conservative" every session for my strong voting record.
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
We must repeal Obamacare and burdensome regulations that drive up the cost of health care. Unleashing the power of the free market, innovation, and personal responsibility by getting government out of the way will ultimately benefit the most Americans.
What role should government play in boosting the economy?
The government’s role is simple: to stay out of the way. There is no doubt that Texas’ commitment to low taxes, limited regulations, and a fair legal system have contributed to our status as the best state for business and consistent rank as a top job creator. The government does not directly boost the economy, but limiting government spurs free enterprise and unleashes the power of innovation.
What changes should be made to the tax code?
The tax reform bill President Trump recently signed is an excellent start. Reading news about companies giving their employees extra bonuses or creating new jobs because of this legislation should be proof enough. Americans are taxed too much, and any improvement to the financial burden caused by our bloated federal government is an improvement. The death tax should be eliminated so our small family ranchers and farmers are able to keep their land to continue feeding our country; our national sovereignty depends on it. Our country should explore a flatter, fairer tax such as a consumption-based model and must reduce frivolous spending to allow families to keep more of their hard-earned money.
What is the best way to bring down unemployment?
Research from the Foundation of Government Accountability (FGA) shows that work requirements for able-bodied adults in other welfare programs led to more employment, higher incomes, and less time on welfare when implemented. The FGA reports more than 12.7 million able-bodied adults are now dependent on Medicaid as a result of 31 states’ decisions to expand Obamacare. Moving able-bodied adults from welfare to work by requiring welfare recipients who are able to work, train, or volunteer would fill the 6 million open jobs across our country. Lastly, keep the government out of the way. Texas has the lowest unemployment rate in 40 years for a reason. We need to roll back regulations and costs that make it harder for people like you and me to earn a living to support our families — which also make it harder for business owners to hire new employees.
How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?
First, Congress must dedicate the taxpayer funds that are collected for Social Security to only be spent for Social Security. Second, moving people from welfare to work would increase the number of people contributing to Social Security to help make the fund solvent. We can no longer allow Social Security funds collected to be robbed to pay for other services.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
As a fourth generation Texan, graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University, small business owner, nonprofit leader, husband, father, and a state representative elected four times, I am uniquely qualified and the only candidate in this election with a proven, consistent record of shrinking the influence of government in our daily lives. Over the last seven years, I've fought to get the government out of hard-working Texans' ways in the Texas Legislature. I’ve been named a “Courageous Conservative” every session by the Texas Conservative Coalition for my strong voting record supporting legislation that promotes limited government, individual liberty, free enterprise, and traditional values. I'm proud of my conservative record in the Texas Capitol and of my effectiveness at serving my constituents, and for bringing people together to find the best solutions for Texas.

My mission statement is to “Make America Like Texas.” The formula for good government is simple, and we do it right in Texas: a balanced budget, low taxes, limited government, a commitment to defending life, protecting religious liberties, keeping sharia law out of our courts, standing with Israel, and defending our constitutional rights. Put simply, Texas works. There’s a reason well over a million people have moved to the Lone Star State since 2010: to get a taste of the unparalleled liberty and prosperity our state has to offer. I’m running for Congress to take my experience improving the conservative Texas model to the place that needs it most: Washington, D.C.
